AP2 crank in AP1 block
Something I'm looking at for my race S2000, along with upgraded rods.
Just wondering how many people are successfully doing this with a 9k rev limit?

On the street we run ap2 crank to 9k all day with upgraded rods and arp2000 bolts, if you are racing the car I would upgrade to the +625 bolts. You wont have any problems

Great thanks I will probably stick the limiter just short of 9000 for reliability. Some of my races next year are 40 minutes which is quite hard on the car.
Roughly what sort of torque and bhp are you seeing over AP1 crank?

I had a Boosted F22 that I ran up to 9k for about 80k miles. I don't think rod failure is the issue, its ovalizing the cylinder bores from the sheer rpm and length of the rod, the stresses placed over the long run begin to wear the bores abnormally. The stock rods are actually very stout/strong. Rotating mass reduction is really the only reason I would make a switch if your still under 500whp or so. If your just racing the car and putting limited miles on it, you could probably get a lot of high revving time out of the stock f22, assuming your tuned appropriately for the added heat.
As someone who has been though two F20's two F22's and now a "built" motor in my s2k's 10 year NA/boosted life, not sure a build is cost effective in the long run over just picking up a used long block every few years if needed. Don't think a 5k modded motor is going to give you many more trouble free miles. But there is always a chance as soon as someone cracks that factory motor to build it, something may fail then if they overlooked something. A low mile used motor is already proven to work if you get a good one. If your building the motor with your own two hands, well disregard.

The cost issue is a good point. I've done 1000 miles in 2 years racing, and ok all of it has been flat out, but I'd not be happy having to rebuild a 5k build, but could live with killing a standard-ish engine every couple of years. I always thought piston speeds were more of an issue than the rods too...
