Engine Temps
Hi everyone!
I have a 02' with 88k on the engine and 102k on the chassis and everything else. It's been about three months since I installed a AEM EMS version 2 series and upgraded to a 70mm throttle body with a 69mm port-matched intake manifold. I also have a Berk header-back single exhaust installed. So the car is currently tuned. My concern is am I running higher temperatures in the engine with these modifications compared to stock levels? If so, what cooling system modifications would decrease engine temps? I know an effective cooling system will prolong the car's longevity and reliability. I would really appreciate some recommendations on where to start and which parts you recommend.
BTW, old thermostat has been replaced with OEM part when I installed the intake manifold.
Also I plan to add headers and some cams in the next year or so.

Did you change the temp sensor scaling in the AEM? This is a known problem and will report incorrect temps. Ideally, you shouldn't be overheating (normal driving) as the fan is controlled by a switch that does not get input from the ECU.

a radiator is nothing but bling with your mods. you can buy one if it makes you feel better having it but i can assure you the oem radiator is more than sufficient.
now an oil cooler would be a good idea if your concerned. S2000s are known to run higher than normal oil temps on the track.
save the money you would spend on bling like fancy hoses, and radiators and get an oil cooler. Your money will be spend making a real difference for your car instead of just looking pretty to show your friends when you pop the hood.

The ems usually reads a little higher than a scan tool would with the stock ecu. Its not a big deal, use it for reference. See what the temps are with everything working correctly and look for deviation. You can also use an infrared thermometer to see what the temp of the radiator is just to double check.
The ems can directly control the fan, if you have it setup to control the fan the fan switches wont have any effect on things.

Yeah that makes more sense. I always hear people installing aftermarket radiators usually when the OEM rad goes bad. Seems like an oil cooler setup would cost about 1k for everything and installed?
