Correct me if im wrong but when wrapping cold metal dosen't allow it to expand when its hot? would you have to wrap objects at a certain tension?

Was this at idle or was this while the car was in motion and at speed?
We tried it with the cars after sitting idle for 5 minutes.

Then we took a drive in both down 595 and took the reading at highway speed.

Then we can back and let the car sit idling again for 5 minutes.

All the temps were within 5-10 degrees of each other with the Hondata IMG always being lower.

The Gold Foil does nothing.

Heat wrapping is for keeping the heat in like on manifolds etc.

I have seen people heatwrap and jethot to stop the heat seeping into the engine bay and keeping the heat in for the exhaust gases velocity.

Iiwu use reflective foil etc on the intake pipe.

I thought about wrapping the header but decided not to this time. I've wrapped many before but didn't do it this time. I wrapped it for aesthetic purposes only.

Fiber glass wrap is an insulation material. It doesn't matter if you're trying to keep heat in (header application) or keep heat out (intake tube application). The insulation just helps maintain the temperature difference by decreasing the heat flux. If the engine bay is warmer than the outside air and you have a cold-air intake setup, why not wrap it? Yes, the intake manifold will still heat the air, but that doesn't mean the intake wrap isn't doing it's job. An insulating intake manifold gasket would help with the intake manifold heat. By the way, here's some interesting info on the Hondata IMG, for those thinking about picking one up -

Hondata IMG in the R&C forum

Hope that helps

I WILL be wrapping my intake tubing for the next auto-x season, if I step up a class.
