Default Competition Gearbox

Hi I am new to the forum, I am from N.Ireland and race a westfield with a 2003 F20c engine and box, the car is dry sumped, runs an oil cooler, Exedy comp clutch and F,wheel. It is a serious race car for circuit racing. The only problems I am starting to encounter is the lack of a competition gear kit for the gear box internals. I am really after a dog box but would like to keep the original Honda casing, as the car is built around this, are there any manufactures that offer such a kit?. The only other problem that I am having is that the car is running a water temp of around 95-100c during a race of around 17 laps, is this too hot?. Would running without a thermostat bring the water temp down, bearing in mind the engine would be fully warmed up before the race in the pits. Thank you.

110C is ~212F. we typically don't see more than 93C or ~200F from the datalogs of our race cars that are running boost

The thermostat removal might help somewhat, but a higher capacity radiator and high pressure radiator cap will do the trick.

I have a custom alloy thick core radiator and a Stant high pressure cap, My limiting factor on the radiator size is the shape of the nose cone on the car. The guy who map's the engine, reduced the Ign timing one degree as he though it was slightly too advanced, this helped slightly but reducing it further showed a power loss. I could try and duct the air entering the nose cone better and see if this might help. Again, Thanks for your help. -Stephen

No worries mate. Ask your tuner when he is having the fans (if you have any still) turn on from the map.

I took the fan off as it weighed 3 kg! :yikes I also though it was blocking some surface area on the radiator, do you think it would be better to put the fan back on? I might move the oil cooler behind the radiator as there is probably hot air coming out of it going into the main radiator. Thanks. - Stephen

Go with a lightweight single fan.
