Holy crap. Now this worries me. I've been seeing corvette guys the past few weeks running the F14's with no issues. Heavier car, more grip and more power. Now I might be scared to put these on my car

Yes, the finish on all of the Forgestar wheels are powder coated.

A lot of light weight wheels have specific heat treatment post casting to strengthen them.

949racing ones specifically state if you want to change the colour to wet paint only.

But forgestar wheels standard Manufacturing process is to powder coat them...

thepoi, are you going to contact Forgestar about the failure? Would be curious to see what they say. Hopefully it's an isolated issue and they take care of you.

Will do a more thorough post later, but it was fatigue cracking. Looks like all the spokes had preexisting cracks from the backside of the spokes.

Yes. I do paint only.

949 paints their wheels from the factory.

I recently picked up some Gen I 17x10 949s, had the colored changed via paint. I will not powder coat any wheels.

that said, all cast wheels are prone to this sort of failure and should be inspected on a regular basis.

I don't think they are powder coated. I have destroyed a Forgestar wheel and the finish chipped off like it was painted not powder coated.

From their website http://www.forgestar.com/wheels/technology/

Forgestar custom powdercoats each set of wheel to each individual own taste. Powder coating is applied electostatically and cured under heat to create a hard finish that is tougher then conventional paint.
