^ I'm not sure if the drag is really appreciable, if you use a modest angle (especially if the wing is not near stall). At Buttonwillow, I didn't see any difference in straight line speed, all the way up to 100+ mph.
slightly off topic...
hey nam,
i'm sure you have data to confirm this, but thinking aloud...
if the wing helps your cornering speed, you should have a better run out of the corners, right? and that will translate all the way down the next straight. so...if your top speed at end of straight is same with and w/o wing, then the wing is in fact slowing you down on the straight?
i guess in reality, it is negligible as long as it decreases lap times and increases driver confidence.
I like #4, "if you think this wing is hot, you might be a ricer" (play of might be a redneck ), and Size DOES matter!
I have the same wing, not on risers yet and I leave it on my car all the time. I DEFINITELY get added attention with it (The J's 70rr doesnt help either ), but I don't daily my car and when i do take it out its only for drives or to s2ki meets where iIknow no-one will mess with it.
^ Tom, I had thought of this, which is why I looked at linear acceleration numbers and not just peak speed. Also, when you look at the MPH graph, you can see that the slope of MPH graph (derivative of velocity is acceleration) remains about the same. If there was appreciable drag, there would be less acceleration, especially at higher speeds. I just didn't see any. Click on the image for full-size.
Red line = with wing
Yellow line = without wing
From what I can see, the wing didn't affect my speeds or acceleration at all...
price is usually around $200 for Streets, but trust me when I say you'll get more track time than you would at most 2 day events combined. also it's much easier to test and tune in this environment.
Im in for a private event.
PM the next time!
And yes, that RX7 driver was bad and letting people by!
FWIW, I take my wing off after every event. Too easy to steal
Nam, good data! i read it in the other thread. i would think the AOA would have to be changed per track, but you would need some kind of data acquisition system to reliabily make those changes. lucky for you...bastard
what is your AOA at center of wing? you're running a negative (wing pointed up) AOA right?
i'll keep you guys posted on the next private/semi-public track day. i'll make sure to only post it in here instead of concentrating my efforts in the so-cal section...
^ Yup, angle measured with respect to the center of the wing. For streets, I think I will run a bit of negative angle (center section pointed down) for more downforce, especially since overall speeds are much lower and I will hopefully have my CR lip on by then.
