Optimal TT Wing
Hey guys, I am currently in the midst of setting up to compete in TTC with NASA. The last thing to address is the aero component. From what I have seen the APR GTC series of wings appear to be quite popular, and good value for cost. However I am considering the APR GT 250 with 67" span. I particularly like this wing as from what I gather it develops less drag, given the downforce it can produce. I would of course reinforce the trunk lid and associated area to mitigate as much deformation as I can. Given the rules of TT state that the wing cannot be wider than the car, or cannot extend a height of 8" above the roofline, wouldn't this be the ideal wing to install and balance it accordingly in the front with a splitter, or am I missing something here?
Most guys don't have the points to run a front splitter in TTC. I have the APR GT-250 67" with deformed trunk and run in TT3. It look a lot of work to finally get the balance to the car with limited front aero (APR front bumper and hood vents). It is definitely a more cost effective wing than the more expensive 2D Voltex options although if trunk deformation is a concern, than the reinforcements they utilize might be worth it. I know Dysen and Wynn both run the 2D Voltex with Dysen running a wider version as he runs TTB with a large front splitter. You can see all three wings here:

Ah very interesting, it didn't even occur to me to vent the hood despite already taking the hit for it on points. As I currently have the mods on the car, I would have enough to run a front splitter, and still run a slick tire. So given my current point standings, it seems that I should maximize on available downforce front and rear
I'm running the 67" GT250 for exactly the same reason you cite, TT legal and maximum efficiency. I attached mine to the chassis so I didn't have to worry about AoA changes and bent sheetmetal by attaching it to the trunk, and it's about an inch above the roofline. As it stands, I get push with a 3" front splitter, vented hood, and all at 0* angle of attack. My next step will be a larger front splitter, and if I'm still pushing, I can remove the Gurney flap and get even less drag then I have now (which is, frankly, probably negligible). As long as you can balance it with front aero, it's a great wing. And a plug, I guess: RSG is selling my design if you want to go that route: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/115...mounted-wings/

I can believe that. A splitter will really start to show its benefit at higher speeds and with more cornering force. The Toyo RR is a great spec race tire, but it isn't a Hoosier.

I know this is against the norm but here on the east coast I run Honda Challange and have not found any benefit to running a splitter. If anything it slowed the car down. I run the apr gtc200 for a wing.
