So what exactly is the problem with the GFL bars? I saw the gigantic thread about the bar but as far as I can tell(20+ pages in that thread and all) people complained about install instructions, hardtop handles not clearing, harness mounting... was a fatal vulnerability discovered?

Bummer as I was eyeing this one for next year...

I have only one problem with my GFL hardcore bar, that is that the harness bar sits so high. I understand the original intent is to clear the roll hoops but I've gutted most of the rear of the car already. I'm wondering if I can just have the current harness bar cut off and have a new one welded in further back on the diagonals.

That pretty much covers it, especially when you can't put the stock seatbelts back into the car like you are supposed too.

Word from Rylan is that Hard Dog might put out bars in the future based on the original plans.
Just to be clear - - and as you point out Hard Dog *might* make bars [presumably for s2k's]
Did Rylan mention or even hint if said "original" plans are identical to Elda's or more likely to be the GLF's plans. Very singificant, and at the same time small differences.

Also, regarding the safety21 BPA design, how customized is that one for the s2k's interior. I did a 3 or 4minute search and turned up nothing. Do you want to share either pricing or a website/link?

Thanks, Jeff

I do not want to add speculation to the Elda/GFL bar issue. I do not have any facts other than what I have read. I believe there was a change made to the mounting plates because of concerns that they could be pushed through the car(they were believed to be too thick on the Elda). Supposedly that difference changed the down angle just enough to interfere with the "whatever."

As for the Safety21 bar, the installation requires a minimum of removing the softtop tray- that's it as far as disturbing the interior. I have seen where the previous owner reinstalled his softtop tray after having made cutout allowances for the bar. Bulletproof Automotive has them on their website, but none in country. It's a 60-90 day wait. They have the Cusco ones in stock, but I do not wish to draw anymore attention to my bar than I have to. The Cusco is blue chromoly and more expensive. Based on what information I've seen on here, the design of the Safety21/Cusco is lacking from a safety standpoint, however, I need something to satisfy the local NASA group. The Safety21 does that.
