Slithering, hitting the slip angle, sliding, etc. happens when your on edge through a slalom or jumping through a lane change. If you don't get off line and get back in shape quickly, your fine. Maintaining your speed as opposed of scrubbing or losing it is a good thing unless you have to use more space, get out of shape, and/or get off line and ruin your approach for the next element.

So I think then, it sounds like I'm overdriving a little bit but not enough probably to give the slower times I'm experiencing. Right before the toledo tour I raised the car maybe 0.2 inches all around and realigned it. I added a little bit more rear toe. I've gotta look to see exactly what it was before, but I think it was around 1/8-3/16" toe in. Now it's 1/4" toe in. I was trying to add a little more stability.

It seems like the opposite happened for whatever reason. At Toledo the 2nd day I upped the front bar one setting to maximum because the car was totally loose (I was assuming because we were 1st heat). But it seems to have persisted. Has anyone ever gotten too much toe? What are the effects of doing that? Obviously you have tire wear, and I would think you would be scrubbing the tire more so that might heat up the tire and/or slow you down. But would it make the rear end loose?

^What Marc said, and this: Overdriving can ruin the corner you're in, the next corner, and the one after that, if you're not careful. Underdriving will never ruin more than one.

That's not to say that you can't find time by overdriving, just that it's a lot riskier, and takes more skill to manage.

Maybe we need a Solo Driving Tips/Questions thread.

I've run up to 9/16" toe in and the car just got tighter. I don't think you have too much toe in.

Yeah maybe, it seemed to fit here particularly since I was pretty sure it would be a lead in for asking why my car is loose, but yeah maybe I should have made another thread. I was starting to wonder if maybe hankooks on s2000s specifically like to be overdriven. I'm used to driving cars that are front wheel drive and/or way down on power, and I know that underdriving is far better than overdriving with those...but this particular situation of S2000 on new crop of street tires I was starting to wonder. It feels fast to overdrive it a little, so it's confusing. Thanks for the tip though, that helps.

That's on an AP1 though right? And on dunlops? I think rear toe is one place where the AP1 and AP2 differ. You didn't run anywhere near that much when you had the AP2 right?

Correct. I don't think the tire will make all that much difference. I never fooled around with rear toe in the AP2 as much as I have with the AP1 so I can't tell you the difference.

We haven't really talked about rear toe since people ran 0 toe in the rear.

Jon, you should have swapped cars with us during the fun runs -- that would have been a great way to know whether your car's setup was significantly off, or whether it was your driving. Also, you may just be getting jittery before Nationals. I'm fairly sure the experienced drivers here will echo that you need to control your head, and just relax. Your past results should give you some confidence, so don't over think or second guess yourself simply because your last practice event wasn't to your satisfaction. I really think you are over-worrying. I sent you the video of the class leader's in car footage, so look at that, and go from there buddy You are gonna be fine.
