Well I am picking up some used ASA FR1's for cheap, they weigh about the same (with tires) as AP1 wheels (with tires) this slightly less than AP2.... the ones I picked up are 17x8 +48 and 17x9 +62...

Im planning on saving for some Koni Yellows and Ground control coilovers and I too am thinking about equal spring rates front and rear.

I am planning on running 225f and 255r tires (not totaly decided on which ones)

I already have the capt. Pants shorty exhaust mod

Planning on a K&N FIPK

undecided on sways

I will be lowering my seat for driver comfort and adding clazzio seat covers with suede inserts to hold me in place better since I do not have the money to shell out for seats.

I am basically doing a budget build. since I am a college student and most likely all I will have at the start of next season is wheels, tires, intake and exhaust. Suspension will likely come mid season or the following season.

I'm on 17x8.5" NSX 60mm offset wheels. 255's all the way around. I already had the wheels so it was an easy place to start from.

Similar bar to what you have. 1-7/16" hollow. No rear bar. 850lbF-600lbR springs. Revalved Koni Yellows.


45mm offset wheels will be iffy in the front without a big roll - I think most people are going to end up on the 6ULR 63mm offset 17x9's or spend big dollars on Volks.

We see near 1.3+ G's on Lincoln's concrete. The car is a touch pushy - but my co-driver refuses to touch the shocks (we have a lot left in rear rebound to loosen the car up).


I think you'll be fine no matter where you start on spring rates, high rear rates make the car crappy on the street - I wouldn't go over 600lbs. The biggest difference we made was ditching the rear bar.


Price list for those interested
Koni's - $1100
Wheels - $500
Springs/Coilovers - $140 (when you accumulate as many springs as I have over the years, this is an easy one)
Front bar - $800
Tires - $900


AP1 ECU was installed this past weekend and VAFC goes in later tonight.
ECU - $60 + 100 for dealer re-key
VAFC w/harness - $175


I'm done with changing anything till I run a few events next year against other STR cars and see how the car stacks up. The car does everything perfect except not make enough power and the redline is too low - but I've got that taken care of. My co-driver likes the car a hell of a lot more this way than he did in AS trim.

what's the story on the 6UL wheels. I guess I wasn't around when they were first being talked about, but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

As for the RPF1s, I wanted to find one and see if I could convince myself that milling 10mm off the face would be ok, but I like to live dangerously.

9" Wheels? I thought 8.5" was max? I'm not trying to be a "naysayer"... it's just in the rules. Why go outside the rules and buy 9" wheels when they *might* not work even in the final 2011 Rules?

New rules came out yesterday Mike. 9" wheels and 255 tires.


The 6ULR wheels are in a design phase right now. Emilio doesn't plan to have them in production and for sale until this winter.


Dampers:
Revalved Koni's - great budget option - can handle the decently high rates I have on the car adequately.

Revalved Bilsteins - the PSS series of dampers use the exact same 46mm piston that all the roundy round shocks do. In other words - you can get yourself a pretty high end monotube shock for a very good price. Talk to Marcus Meridith about a revalve for these. I personally would stick to non-adjustable unless the adjustable dirt track shaft that Bilstein offers is different than the PSS shaft.

KW - meh. Some here have had good luck, others not so much.

Koni 3012/2812 - the 30 series should run around $2200, the 28's about double that. Great damper. Does everything you need and more.

AST - another good one. Lots of people switching over to these and have lots of success. Reasonably priced as well. Only downside is you can't run 2.25" springs because the piston housing is enormous.

Moton/JRZ/Penske - nothing to say about them. Everyone knows the story.


I wouldn't consider anything else. Especially anything made in Taiwan or Korea. Ohlins DFV probably wouldn't be a bad one though - not a whole lot of info out there about them though.

Just make sure you give them PLENTY of lead time.

Double adj Konis + GC coilovers will still run you ~$2500.

The Nick. You're seeing 1.3 g's on what tires? And is that the all-elusive "peak g" or a sustained, reproducible reading?
