how about used? you can get in that ballpark.. i recently picked up a set of moton clubsports for not much more than that.. complete and ready to bolt in. they may need a rebuild sooner than later but at least i have my foot in the door to knob turning, suspension setup fun
I would be fine with used shocks, a used set of motons would be awesome but they rarely pop up for sell. I wouldn't mind getting a set of used tcklines either. or even buy the same konis as tckline uses (anyone know?) and revalve them.

TC Klines are the 8242 twin tube, I believe, and the S2000 fitment was a special run made for TC Kline.

For somewhere around $3000, you can get a complete bolt-on solution with the 30-series monotube Konis through ProParts.
I think you should be able to get them cheaper than that - the steel body 30's that we have to use because of the shock forks run around $600 a corner last I checked.

I just called tckline and they said for $600 a shock they can make another set of thier shocks and if I wanted to valve up any I could. What do you think about that?

Good point. I forgot to mention that it was including the price for ProParts' own pillowball mounts, which are a couple hundred. If you want to use your own mounts, it'll be right around $2500.

On these expensive shocks, are pillowballs mounts worth it for ~500-600 more, or are modified OEM good enough?

Personally - I think modified OEM is fine - then going up to spherical upper mounts in the future is a good way to do it.

Josh - I'd much much rather have the 3012's than the TCKline's. There will be a world of difference in streetability - albeit the 3012's are a pain in the ass to adjust compression.

Why not just get KWs? There's a set languishing in the For Sale subforum for $1250. They're not monotube, but neither are the Konis that you're so eager to buy.

Definitely a viable option and they will get you 95% of what you need.

I don't really see anyone using the kw's, I thought the tcklines were monotubes? For the 3012 series konis through pro-parts can you just call them and tell them your application and what spring rates you want to run and they will get it all togeather like tckline does?

Yes, some 30's have already been made by ProParts for other STR guys like Jeff Cawthorne's MX-5. Talk to Jeff Wong at ProParts about what you want. One thing to note that's partly stalling my order of the 30's is to figure out what top mounts you want to use. They can have the 30's be close to stock body length if you want to use OEM style mounts, or they can use a shorter body if you want to use a flat pillowball mount, so you don't loose bump travel. There may be a way to compromise so you can use both - I haven't looked into it enough.

The TC's are twin tube.

Yes ProParts can do that. So can Performance Shock - call and talk to Bruce.

Both Jeff at ProParts and Bruce at PSI are great people. You can also try Jamie at SRP Engineering - all of these people will present you with options if you tell them what you want and what your budget is. In fact I'd call all 3 just to see who does the best job of making you feel comfortable with your purchase.

I'd seriously look into something like a Penske that can be continuously upgraded over time - you can start a Rebound only adjustable shock for around $2500 - then next year add the compression reservoirs if you feel its necessary. Jamie at SRP can help you with Penske's - he's good people.
