Spec S2k series discussion thread
even though I do TT now, i prefer to go W2W. I've run spec miata for a few years and used to race ITB. TT is great cause I can use my street car. no trailer, etc. For NASA nationals, I'll probably borrow a truck/trailer, but I'll be sleeping there and hauling 2 sets of tires.
I hate to sound pessimistic, but if it's not w2w, it sounds like too much work to me. The S2000 is going to get 7-15pts for 2007 in NASA TT, so I doubt I'll be racing it next year in TT. I can just get something else.
With W2W in NASA we can do our own spec series and then race in PTD or PTC depending on were the mods put us.

Drew's original post is for a TT series that would form the basis for a W2W series in '08 or '09.
I think the discussion so far is showing that SpecS2K as proposed isn't suited for TT, or at least, is no better than the existing S2K Challenge classes.

Thinking about it more, I'm starting to worry that a SpecS2K series of any form would just dilute the S2000 community further. There already exists a good TT series (S2000 challenge), and there are at least three W2W series out there (SCCA HC and T2, NASA ECHC), all with slightly different rules. We clearly don't need a fourth.
For time trials, I think a national-level series could be formed that simply adopts the existing S2000 Challenge rules. Basically, we declare that any track event, anywhere, is eligible for points, and limit competitors to their best N results. The current event-points system, which is dependent on the number of people who show up to an event, is perfectly suited to this. Then results are compiled here on S2Ki (perhaps in a new sub-forum of R&C?).
For W2W, I think sticking with NASA and SCCA sanctioning bodies is probably best, since they have clear, established safety regs and the resources to inspect cars accordingly. Not to mention, they have the ability to get good tracks on good dates. Establishing a new, national-level SpecS2K series seems overly ambitious right now.

I'm in for any East Coast S2000 Challenge time-trials. And if any West Coasters want to return the favor, I'll offer my car for a co-drive.
yeah why can't the EC guys start TT'ing using the Challenge classing and pick some track org who's willing to let them run timing?
Tho I don't agree that there isn't room for a spec2k w2w series. Cheaper than honda-cup/ite and better racing than T2.
Like spec miata, but faster.

I've never quite understood the rationale behind running S2000s in a class with other Hondas. The car is dramatically different than anything else Honda makes.

Being on the East coast, I have no exposure to the SV series, but the rules look good. Let's pick those up, and see if we can regionally choose which events we want to try to hit - so there is more than one car.
For w2w, i wish i was over there on the west coast so i could partake. I dare say there would be only me in Florida.
...And I love the idea of East coast -west coast ride swapping! There would need to be some interesting written agreements beforehand (fix what you break), but I might fly west to race if I didn't need to bring my car.
