There is not an issue. Many, many racecars have run RPF1s and had no problems. I've dropped wheels, run on curbs, etc and never had a problem with 17x8 RPF1s.

I just bought a set of Kosei K4R's 17x8's. We will see how they hold up. I've run Panasports on my ITC civic, never had an issue, but they are serious track wheels, and I don't know if you could classify the 'new age' wheels as 'serious track wheels'.
