Few questions, I just bought an S2000 as a track car and I might be racing it soon. I am thinking about Honda challenge or ITE... however, before I do that I need to know what kind of specification they require for the roll cage /roll bar? I would hate to put one in the car to find out later that its illegal.

Thanks

You should run the car in T3. T3 has minimal modifications and therfore lower intial cost. Check out the rules at www.scca.com under the club racing tabs. Go to the cars and rules section read over the GCR. On a side note ww will be at the SCCA national race at Summit Point in May feel free to stop by and check it out.

I donno if I agree that T3 is lower cost. To be competitive you need a new car (CR in many cases), the cage costs significantly more and you're far more limited in mods which means the mods that work are a lot more expensive.
IMO from someone who hasn't raced a T3 car.

Hmmmmm confusing isn't it...
Well I just want to know what class I would run in before I get a cage so it would be fabricated to spec.
of course I want soemthing compatitave such spec E30 or Miata.

My plan is to race in ITE this year and be outclassed but I wonder, has anyone tried to convince SCCA that the S2k fits in STU? The Boxster S is listed there but not the S2k.

The new GCR excludes 07-09 in ITR.
Looks like T3 might be where I'll end up. They ask non-CRs to replace hardtop latches with positive fasteners. I'd assume that applies to CRs as well, no?

The GCR excludes the 07-09 just because no one has run one thus far. you can very easily have the ITAC classify the car.

So STU is possible and I really like the idea of it. Now I just have to convince some other non-Miatas in the bay area to come out and play =). Much lower weight than T3 but not too crazy otherwise. Notable limitations of STU are stock bodywork and dash, wing must be no taller than 6" below the roofline, and wheels <= 17x8.

Krazik, looking at the '11 GCR and T3 rules for the S2000, your T3 description in the first post needs updating. Here's a suggested update from your original 2007 posting:
SCCA:
T3 s2k new for 2007+, was in T2 in -2006
- Mostly stock, mods are expensive because of lots of rules.
- Only class where you can take a s2k to the National Run-Offs
- Base allowed mods and common recommendations.
--28??lbs 2980lbs AP1, 3070lbs AP2 (with driver)
--AP1 or AP2 oem wheels (USDM not JDM) :: AP2 Wheels Any wheels with max 17x7.5f 17x8.5r
-- DOT Tires (RA1, Hooiser, Kumho, etc) 215/45(f), 275/40(r ) max
--Full Interior Interior trim removal OK, leave the dash in. If rear bulkhead removed, need a metal firewall
-- Stock Brakes
-- Stock ECU
-- Double Adjustable Shocks with OEM springs (can use CR springs/sway bars) :: Moton, JRZ, Peneske
--No Wing CR front fascia and rear wing on all years is OK
-- Hard top with positive fasteners required
Hope this helps...
