Default AP2 CTSC 4.57 vs 06 300C SRT8

Short Verison:

Not the perfect race, but dead even overall.

Long Version:

I see the 300C SRT8 coming up fast behind me while I'm doing 30. I see him get in the lane next to me to pass. I get on it and I take it up to around 70. While we were both on it I was looking over my shoulder back at him, because my top was down, and he was slightly creeping on me.

After I shut down and keeps going and gets in front of me at the next light and I pull up behind him. In the middle lane sits a Mustang Cobra. Ok, this should be interesting.

Not instantly, but very soon after the light turns green I see him launch it. I was ready for this and launched soon after, but still with an expected bit of delay. Coming off a clutch slave cylinder change yesterday I did not hi rev and dump the clutch. Yes, even with a HD pressure plate, putting an 03 on an 04 really is a great mod. No more vague feeling near the end of the throw.

We were dead even (distance wise) until I shut it down around 75. Again he continued longer. The cobra didn't race. Maybe he saw the cop a ways back that cruised by later. Would've been great had it been all of us (and no cop complications).

I happen to have been going to Quizno's and he happens to be going to the car wash next door, so I pulled in where he was and we chatted. Nice guy. He felt he was beating me and I disagreed, offering a re-run but side by side. He said he'd look for me in the future and felt he'd take me. Must live nearby as well. Just friendly disagreement.

I'm now at around 310/315 by dynojet standards, so does this sound like it should've been even, or should one of us taken the other convincingly?

C&D's review of the 05, which shows the same hp as the 06:

"SRT8 will bust through 60 mph in 4.7 seconds on its way to a 13.2-second quarter-mile at 109 mph."

This sounds about where I'm at right now, although I may be a bit quicker. He was stock, so I don't see why he thinks he'd take me.

Thoughts?

You shoulda got him off the line and pulled a couple cars to 100.

Really? Had I launched like I normally would off the line, I feel I'd be pulling away from him modestly at least until 70. But, aside from the slave cylinder swap reason, I was behind him and didn't want to risk smacking him with a full out clutch drop, in case he decided not to launch. So basically we were dead even with a slower than normal launch by me.

But I figured it'd be more even at higher speeds, especially with my top down. Maybe next time we'll go higher, but not much I'm not comfortable at higher sppeds on the street. And if there is a next time, ideally it's be from a 15mph roll.

He said his is a 12 second car, which I doubted and appears to be untrue based on the C&D test. Not sure what other mags results have been.

I'm surprised they're that quick to 60 given the weight but they shouldn't be overlooked for sure. Lots of torque and lots of power but I would think they're strongest from a roll.

He would have had ~1 car on you if you are on stock boost.

Pretty much driver's race.

In my book, unless you can DESTROY another car in a race it's pretty much equivocal on the street. There are no set starting / stopping points and "I had 0.0005 cars by 70mph, but he had 0.00091 cars by 90mph, WHO WON?!!!!" discussions are kind of pointless.

I wanna go at one of those SRT8's but with the race gas tune so I can make sure I will pull.

I'm at 6.2 boost (4 inch pulley) and tuned. Lightened flywheel too.

Driver's race would make sense to me, which is why he won't win if we line up a light (hehe - shameless, possibly undeserved bravado). He really thought he'd taken me this time and would do so the next time. I didn't miss a shift, short shift, or lose traction, and we were even, so I'm not sure why he thinks his car is faster.

If we ever we go from a dig at 15 mph, and I don't F up, I'll win, at least to around 70. Between 15 and 70 seems to be my strongest area. The few times I've taken to 100, it seems 70 to 100 is not my car's strong area.

A group of us plan to go to MIR this fall, so I guess that will be the proof in the pudding on what me and my car can do (god I hope my return trip is better than coming back from NOPI last week, where my clutch slave cylinder crapped on me while racing a vette, 50 miles from home & in storms - but now I'm blessed with better shifting!).
