Boxster Type S
S2Ken- The fact remains that both the S2000 and Boxster S are great cars period. A case can be made for either car considering what attributes are most important to a potential owner or buyer. Although no one can dispute the factual evidence from your post above, it definitely seems that you too have a selective memory. Putting a bias spin on magazine numbers definitely does not make one car faster or better handling than the other. I could easily go to the back of any new motor trend and quote that the S2K's performance numbers equal or exceed that of the the Boxster S in every category. (Which it does) However, in the end these cars are very close in performance and I wouldn't mind having either one in my garage. Enjoy your Boxster S and have fun !!
12Gage,
You missed the point of my post. In another thread SMU1976 showed up (the thread about 157mph which has scrolled off to page 3 or so now) and posted claims that the S2000 was faster in EVERY test in EVERY magazine EVER published when compared to the Boxster S. He claimed I couldn't prove otherwise. He was wrong, as I posted the evidence above. In my post above I also posted that I wasn't biased and some of the links on that one page point to articles where the S2000 was rated higher than the Boxster. I never made the claim that the Boxster S was always faster, etc. I only made the claim that the cars were pretty close in terms of performance and that SMU1976 was in fact wrong when he was claiming that the S2000 was always faster in every test etc. etc. I agree with you that both cars are great cars, that's what I've been saying all along, but SMU1976 has some other alterior motive for following my posts around and bashing the Boxster S or making claims that simply are not true. He asked for it, I answered, case closed!
A simple review of this thread showed that out of the blue he tried to start stuff again between the Boxster S and the S2000 when there is no need to do so.

How about these: ?
Car and Driver magazine - Feb 2002 p.111 "Road Test Digest" (The summary of the performance of cars previously tested). The S2000 (Tested 10/99) shows a 0-60 mph at 5.8 sec, 1/4 mi. in 14.4 sec, and a top end of 147 mph. On the same page the Porsche Boxster S (Tested 8/01) shows a 0-60 mph at 5.3 sec, 1/4 mi. in 13.9 sec, and a top end of 155 mph.

Sorry S2Ken. I see that you were just trying to make the point that the cars are in fact very close in performance. How do you like the Boxster S ? I figure that it must be pretty awesome in all honesty.
Yes, Ken, but you always edit your figures so nicely, I never posted about every test and every magazine, like I even read every magazine? Your always beating the S2000's but the car magazine numbers do not back your claim do they. Remember, when you read the fine print the Significant differences is each catagory are listed. 0-60 is .3 sec, 1/4 mile is .5 seconds, and top speed is not even tested by the magazine? This is only reported by the manufacturer, but occasionally may be meaured on a closed track.
You did say that every magazine you came across had the Boxster and Boxster S ahead of the Honda?? Not true! All I say, and I repeat, is that the cars are very comparable, but when it comes to a value, the Honda clearly is a better choice. Remember, the test drivers at the car magazine's don't buy the car, the just test the performace.
I even state and I will state again, that the Porsche is a great looking car, scroll up, look, don't be so close minded. Loosen up dude. You always hang on this board (is this honda or Porsche board, and like do you own a Honda?) and brag about your Porsche and post probably during your work hours. Most your post are always angry. They also tend to leave out the price of the vehicles? And don't tell me that price doesn't matter, for your neighborhood (lets just say it ain't Mission Hills baby) is pasted on every post photo sig.
Road and Track Road Test Summary:
S2000 Tested Sept 2000
0-60 5.5 Seconds
1/4 14.1 Seconds
Slalom 65.9 MPH
PRICE, $32.000 Now thats Value and Engineering, thats my only Point Dorthy, my only point, you get a great value here for your dollar!
Porsche Boxster Tested 9/99
0-60 6.0 Seconds Honda Sig better
1/4 Mile 14.6 Seconds Honda Sig better
Slalom 64.1 Honda Sig. Better
PRICE $47,000 Lets see, thats 15K for less performace right?
Porsche Boxster S Tested Sept 2000 (same month)
0-60 5.6 Seconds No Sig difference with Honda
1/4 14.0 Seconds No Sig difference with Honda
Slalom 65.6 MPH No Sig difference with Honda
PRICE $ 54,300 OUCH, will even give you the non significant statisical edge on the performace, but $22,300 more dollars?
Like since KU is winning is that your peer goup now or what? Did they give you the free Porsche lease while your playing point guard this year? Whats the deal dude? Who cares? I played ball at Boulder and we kicked your tails for so many years in Football that the score was silly, but I actually graduated and have moved on in life? Next you will be talking about your Dad taking out my Dad? Grow up.
Now back in closing to my point and only point that you will probably be reading at work tomorrow, the HONDA IS A BETTER VALUE, and I would put that 22 thousand you blew (but your probably a lease customer anyway) into that small driveway of yours, make it a little longer than a car length. I can post whenever or wherever I like.

Small driveway? Huh? I think we have the largest driveway in the neighborhood, 3 cars wide, 3 cars deep, full out, I wouldn't want to shovel any more... reminds me, check for snowblower sales this spring...
Speaking of shoveling, I see you are finally backing off on the stuff you were shoveling before, that ALL magazines, excuse me you said "Every" magazine had the S2000 rated higher/faster, etc. than the Boxster S. Glad to see you finally came to your senses and admitted that the cars are very close in performance and that the difference will be with the individual car and driver, thus the magazines, remember the ones you were arguing as statistically significant, or did you forget that phrase? ... anyway those magazines are meaningless when it comes to real life.
Ah so now you've changed your argument from that the S2000 is always outperforms to the claim that the S2000 is a better value. A better value than what? A Miata? Hardly? A Porsche Boxster? That all depends on what you value. Does the Boxster cost more? ABSOLUTELY. Is it worth more? YES IN MY OPINION. Guess what, I doubt you share that opinion. That's fine, I'm "cool wit dat". To each his own.
If the ONLY way you judge "value" is 0-60 time / dollars then your have a very simply "value" equation and the obvious results would favor the S2000, but using your oversimplified value equation I could show that a Toyota MR2 Spyder is a better "Value" than the S2000. Why didn't you buy a Toyota Spyder? Why? Because you liked the S2000 better and thought based on OTHER criteria that it was an overall better value for you. Guess what, I made the SAME decision with regard to the Boxster S. To me, it had the things that *I* value.
Here's another news flash VALUE IS SUBJECTIVE, this is no "standard" value formula, there is no VALUE LAW of physics, there is no "right and wrong" of "Value". What you value, I obviously do not.
BTW, I apologize for taking some cracks at the state of Misery, er Missouri, it's just pretty easy to do, and you were the one proclaiming Missouri's status as the "show me" state. If you lived over here, you'd realize that the Kansas side is the side to be, much like the Missouri side is the place to be instead of Illinois with regard to St. Louis.
BTW, how did you know that I live in Mission Hills?
Also I'm not leasing my car, and I didn't put 22K down, don't know where you come up with this stuff....

Sorry, I've gotta step in here...
When you talk about Value, it's very subjective. Let's first get that straight. You can't measure value in your eyes and compare it to value in someone else's eye. Value indicates worth. The porsche name is worth something to some people. The heritage is worth something. The styling is worth something.
So let me ask you this....
If someone loves Porsches all his life, knows all about Porsche racing history, and absolutely loves the way a Boxster S looks how much do you think it is worth to him?
Now in turn, say this same person hates Honda (economy cars), doesn't care about what Honda is doing or what they ever did, and hates the way the S2000 looks. How much value would an S2000 have to him?
So he is pressed with a question of buying his dream car for $52K or something doesn't want for $32K. Which is the better value now?
Understand? Good, class is now over
P.S. after saying all of that, you can compare performance value which I will handily give to the S2000 in this comparison, but car value to most people takes into account much more than that. Otherwise we'd all be driving fox body mustangs with suspension upgrades, big brakes, and blown motors that run 8's all day and handle on rails
.

12Gage,
Thanks for being civil. I like the Boxster S a lot, the best way to describe it would be "well balanced". If you get a chance to drive one for an extended time take someone up on it, if someone is offering you track time, don't walk, run and jump on that offer ASAP. I've only tracked once, but am planning to do so twice this spring if weather and work plans don't get in the way. If I can get a camera mount I'll shoot some track video and toss it on my website. I held out for a Boxster S with just the options I wanted, everything I thought was necessary, and certain color combos and extras that I thought added a unique touch to the car. I plan on keeping it a long long time, even if I get something else, I view it as a car I would put away for awhile and bring out when my kids are old enough to drive.
If you have specific questions about the car, etc. I'll do my best to answer them, but driving one answers a lot of things for you.

Hello,
I don't know if this is the right place to post this, this is my first time so bear with me please.
I am thinking of buying a new S2000, the dealer near me wants MSRP which is $32,700.
1) Is this a good deal?
2) Are there any options I should get?
3) Any options I should avoid?
Anything else you'd tell me as a prospective buyer?
Then whats the story with this post if you value the Porsche so much over the Honda?
