challenged by a neon?
Alright, for some reason, some random guy that I don't know is challenging me. He wants to race for $400. He's friends with someone's girlfriend that works with me. Well, the guy's girlfriend came to my work today to basically talk crap about my car, and how I'd get killed by her boyfriend's neon. To try and get an idea of what he had, I said "so he bought an SRT-4 huh?" She said no!? Granted, I can tell this this girl has no idea about anything, but her boyfriend has probably won a few races and she thinks he's unbeatable. There's a place nearby on private property that has a straightaway for about a mile. She says he wants to match at 45mph and when we get to the straightaway, we'll go from there.
I don't know anything about any cars except for an RX-7 and the S2000. I only know bits and pieces of stuff I overheard her say to other people. The neon's a 4 cylinder and it beat a stock S2000 by 4 car lengths. All of this could be bogus...I don't know. I don't know if he thinks I'm stock or knows I have forced induction.
I guess I have a few questions.
1) I have to believe that he has an SRT-4. I swear I thought I heard her say it was a new car. I don't think she knows any different. If this is the case, what are my chances? I have the comptech SC, 3.5" pulley (8lbs of boost currently), comptech aftercooler, AEM EMS, comptech headers/testpipe, single exhaust. Racing conditions are listed in 1st paragraph.
2) If it's not the SRT-4, and it's just a dodge neon, what can it possibly have done to it that makes this guy so confident? I have to assume he has some kind of idea that I'm not stock. I'm assuming he's at least got a turbo on there, the reason they want to start from 45 mph, probably wants to be in boost and not have to shift right away.
If anyone has any ideas on what I might be up against, please let me know. I know there is really no info to go on, but if you had to guess from what she's been saying. I just feel like this is kind of shady for some person I don't know to know me and he wants to race me for money so badly. What can someone put into a dodge neon and what kind of power might I be facing?
I've never raced a stock S2000 so I don't know how many car lengths I'd put on one, so I can't try to judge it from that (presuming the statement was even true).
Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. I've never seen this car, and neither have any of my friends, and we've done a lot of the racing that goes around here (at the dragstrip or this guy's private property). It's very rare that there's a car in our area with decent power that we haven't at least heard of.
Thanks,
Dave

I think he has the new dodge SRT-4 with 215hp & 245 torque. Your supercharged so why don't you go spank him?
Don't be scared of what people say just race him and find out if you'll win or lose. This girl doesn't sound like she know's what she's talking about a Neon beating a S2000 4 car length
Our car stock can hand the SRT-4 there own ass, Plus your supercharged why not make a extra $400. Just remember he might have a bottle in his trunk, that's why she's so cocky about his car. I believe your car should be pushing close to 400hp with thoses mods you mention.

Well, if he has an SRT4 he better have it modded, cuz if hes not you'll destroy him IMO. I think he may think your stock, or just a few bolt on's. Why dont you guys agree to run after checking out eachothers cars. look for nitrous, if he's not spraying and is stock or close to stock, I'd say you'll put a few cars on him no prob.
See most SRT owers are pretty cocky since the SRT is pretty quick. Im not knocking them or the owners, but I have spent time on the Neon Board and most think their invinsible. I'd say race for fun or for a full tank of gas

2004 + SRT-4's are capable of mid 13's stock. Easily formidable, run him while he's stock... You might have your hands full from a stop!!! I'm curious to know actually.
From a roll, you'll rape him, unless he's modded, it could be close again ? Run him.

Here's my rules on racing for money.
If you don't feel confident about the situation, don't race.
If you don't know what mods he has, don't race.
If you suck at racing, don't race.
Otherwise you're gonna lose your money

fair enough, so everyone seems to think it's the SRT-4 as well. I think it almost has to be because I can't see doing too much to a neon and thinking you're going to beat a modded S2000.
Yeah, I figured he might have had a bottle in there, but I would think he'd want to race from a dig, not from a 45mph roll. I was pumped when he said 45 mph roll, that's the perfect scenario for my car. We're trying to set it up for next Thursday because he won't have money until then. If I find out any more info on the car, I'll post it. If not, I'll let you guys know how it went.
Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it.
