challenged by a neon?
Well if your going to race him for 400 bucks forsure. i would get some more mods for your S2000. I think he has more then 340 bhp in his S2000 cause he has other things upgraded. I'm thinking he has roughyl 400hp

Eh, with traction, it can be faster; 108mph indicates a high-12 or 13-flat time.
Right traction is a problem when SC'd or turbo'd...and the 2001 Comptech S2000 was running those times on 18"X8" front and 18"X9" rear 3 piece wheels with BFG T-Force T/A tires (pretty sticky). When it comes down to putting down the power during hard acceleration its either bog the engine or spin the tires...either way time is lost. I'm not sure but I think 18"X9" rear is getting pretty close to the allowed size limit, without spacers...could be wrong though, never really measured or looked into it.
I put down 310 whp when I had my S. I to was running the smaller pulley and after cooler. On the freeway is where the boosted S2000's come alive. There are quite a few SRT-4's here in Phoenix with huge aftermarket FMIC's. I can honestly say that if you run him with out knowing his mods is crazy. I have an STi with an APS SR50 turbo and supporting mods good for 310 awhp and it looks and sounds bone stock. I have surprised quite a few people that had no idea what I have done
to the car. I wish you the best of luck if you run him. I know people here say "it's just a Neon" or "it will break down" but how many S2000's do you see putting down
more than 400whp? Not many. That is a very attainable # with the SRT.

All it comes down to is that I would almost never race a car for a lot of money if I didnt know what he had.
When I had my S2000, I had countless Civics and CRXs etc ask to race me for upto a thousand bucks. I always declined although I was pretty sure I would win most of the time.
There are many fast cars out there. It doesnt really matter that it started out life as a stock Neon. It could be anything by now.
If $400 is not a lot to you and you dont really mind losing it, then go for it. I prolly wouldnt race someone I had no idea about for more than a 100 bucks.

I'm really not excited about this whole situation, my buddy had to work late so I couldn't really talk to him to see if he found out anything. The guy's girlfriend says he'll let me see that it's a 4 cylinder before he takes the money, if he wins. So I'm thinking, he'd have to build the engine, put a large turbo on there, and maybe a bottle on top of that to be confident enough to race me (assuming he knows I'm not stock). I haven't seen his girlfriend again, although she said she'd stop back in sometime this week. (Apparently her boyfriend and I work the same shifts, or so she said when I said I wanted to talk to him).
It's just hard for me to imagine that there's a neon, with a built block, big turbo, or whatever he may have done to make this guy so confident, without any of my friends or myself knowing about it. He has to have raced someone around here (and believe me, we all know each other...whether we're close friends or just acquaitances). This is all the reason for me to believe he knows I'm not stock. All he has to do is mention my car to someone, and they'll tell him I'm FI...not any specifics, but just that I'm FI. I've never seen him at the dragstrip, and I haven't heard of anyone racing a neon on the street (except for the one guy I mentioned in my post before this one.) It's so hard for me to believe this guy has this super neon he's making it out to be. He says he'll race anyone as long as he can see the car before the race. He doesn't have to know what's been done, just wants to see the car. If I see his girlfriend again, I'm going to try and hand the race over to my friend's 3 rotor RX-7. I'll gladly follow or ride with him and judge it from there.
I really want to see this race happen, whether it's me or not. I'm almost 95% sure he's got enough in there to handle me from the way he's talking, but curiousity is just killing me and I have to find out what he's got.
