Hello, I'm new to these boards. I just read the whole thing, and would like to include some information.

First, I'm a moderator at www.18turbo.com, and I would like you to see some of the stock (and modded) 2002 (and 00/01) models GTI 1.8T runs:

http://www.18turbo.com/18t-quartermile.html

legend:

dp = downpipe

cb = cat back exhaust

dump = custom dump tube after downpipe

UP = Upsolute

BCS = Split Second Boost Controller (not a chip)

oem = stock

APR = aftermarket chip
GIAC/Garrett = aftermarket chip
Upsolute= aftermarket chip

AWP = 2002 180hp
AWW = 2001 150hp
AWD = 2000 150hp

Now, I did not come here to trash anybody. Just to clarify some things.

btw, for your enjoyment, here are some races of a very lightly modded (chip 1.1bar/dp) 1.8T's:

vs. S2000 (bad launch)

Okay normally I don't do this, because I hate it when people come on the VW forums expressely for the purpose of starting shit.

However, the ignorance expressed by some people on this board (VW drivers included) made me feel the need to speak.

I drive a 2002 GTI 1.8T. The only power mods I have are an APR 93oct chip, CAI, and turbo-back exhaust. I ran a 13.4 @103mph.

I urge everyone to click on the link that Damir originally posted:

The numbers don't lie.

Bottom line is I have raced a stock ITR and whooped its ass. I have raced 3 different S2Ks and pulled on two and was about a bumper behind the other one (due to a bad launch). And all of these races were w/ heavy 18" wheels.

By no means am I saying that my car is "better" than an S2K or an ITR or what not. I happen to think that the S2K is a great car, and would be happy to own one. All that I am saying is don't talk trash on the tuning potential of the 1.8T. Sure, it could get trashed on a road course, but the handling is by no means as bad as some would make it out to be, and it can beat a handful of more expensive cars w/ only a few inexpensive mods.

Well said Boosted 20v. Nice to see a fellow 20vturbo.com member. Any Central PA local S2000's want to see what the tail lights on a 1.8T Jetta look like?

I don't think he seems to understand that even a chipped 1.8T will lose to a stock type-r from a roll from any speed to any speed, or from a dead stop, or on the track.
I just had to chime in... your kidding right? I've seen stock R's fall to stock 1.8T's at the track and on the street. Not to say I've beaten every Type R on the street, but I'm not afraid to race them because I have beaten plenty of them by at least a car length. How do you figure that? And my car is stock! There is no way a chipped 1.8t would fall to a stock R... unless of course the driver sucks. If that is the case, than you are right. Not flaming here, but you are defenitely incorrect. I've beaten them in my previous VR6 as well by at least as big a margin, FYI. The S2000 is a nice 35K dollar car, but so is the 20K 1.8T that is ALMOST as fast. I have yet to beat one, but I do come close.

Can someone please post rudys races with his chip and cup kit (?) with the stock crappy wheels and tires where he smoked the S2000 @ the TIS.

Btw, I have driven many ITRs and S2000s, I've also owned a Civic SI and a Celica GT-S (amongst others) besides my current 328I and GTI 1.8T. Some of you fan-boys need to come to terms with the stark realities of your cars and others.

Btw, an ITR weights 2650lbs and not 2558lbs, unless you weighted yours with some weight reduction done to it. GTI 1.8Ts have been weighted in the 2800lb range, a little more than the S2000. VW likes to quote the weight of the car with a full tank of gas and all options (including the heavy ass stock '17 wheels).

Torque is what causes acceleration. Torque (force) applied over a distance in a certain time will give HP. Comapring cars of different weights and torque/HP numbers is fallacy.

Saying the ITR is better than a GTI 1.8T because it has "better" gearing is like saying I have a Turbo, thus I'm better. I.e. each car has gearing optimized for its powerband. Amongst similar cars, some might have better gearing than others but that was just a dumb statement, you are comparing apples to oranges. It's like saying," hey my Mac truck has 12 gears, thus it is better than your 4 speed pickup truck".

ITRs are great cars, as are S2Ks, but please do not glorify your possesions to feel better about your insecurities about others, it only weakens your case.

Cheers.

Fake R. Lot's of them around, more than the real ones.

Wow thanks, I guess I had better go throw out my 3k set of race scales because you say my car weighs more. (that weight by the way is around average, some drivers reporting 10 pound less, some 10 pounds more).

Bleh you all are talking about drag racing. Not interested.

Haha of course you're not interested, b/c you know you're dead :f*cking wrong.
But that's a good, mature way to hold an argument. When you know you're wrong, pull the "lack of interest" card. I'm sure an ITR could take me in a road course, but who really gives a f*ck?Bleh.. lack of interest.

Any S2Ks / ITRs in the Harrisburg, PA area that wanna go, let me know. I always love a friendly race.

BTW thanks Big Dong.. we gotta represent the Central PA 1.8T power.
