I've raced a few type-r's and have always beaten them except for this one time. Was a type -r with a turbo. Heard it spool up and the guy took off. He walked me pretty bad from 60-110. I was very impressed. Never saw him around again. Guy was real cool though. Thumbs up when he shut down.

On a racetrack the Type R's are pretty close to the S2000's (but still slower by a few seconds). I've had a ride in a few and thought that they were awesome. So I was suprised that they weren't a lot quicker than a Type R on a racetrack.

Re: Type R owners are soooo cocky.

This sounds like a small percentage (note: I am not saying ALL!) of the early model WRX owners in Oz. Because they are so easy to get power out of there are some real killers out there. But they also seem to attract knobheads that use their cars as billboards for their stupidity.

The Type R came out here well after the WRX and was seen as a bit of an underdog to the WRX. I respect the guys that do the WRX thing well but jeez there are some wankers out there.

My friend ActiveAero off of www.honda-tech.com has a 01 type R with an intake and a header. His best time is 13.82@99.2mph with a 2.0XX 60'. He runs open header at the track and hasn't had power steering in quite some time. I will have him come on this board for you guys and post his slip just so you know I am not BS'ing

Edit: Here is the link to his time.......I will still get him on here to post the slip http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=294570

Wow pretty impressive numbers.

I wonder how much HP removing the power steering belt is good for?

And how much are intake and headers good for on a type r?

I know that an S2ki member by the by the name of DC2specr has Gteched a 13.5. All he has is intake, exhaust, headers, Power FC ECU and cam gears. His car has also clocked a verified 13.7 .

Depends on the track and driver. I was within 1 second of my S2k in my ITR at Pacific Raceways -- which I guess explains why I hunted down and passed every S2000 I saw out there in the "little ol' ITR".

I guess it doesnt hurt that I have a large number of track days on that course too....

I was beaten by a Type R eariler this year by a close margin. It was lightely modded. I really was hurt, but the guy probably dropped a couple of grand into the car and it still didn't look half as good as mine, so who cares, I bought my car for looks, not to street race.

Your torque does not mean a damn thing. We are talking about a car which can run mid 14's stock (ITR) vs one that can run mid 15's stock (VW) -- even with it's additional torque. (note to self, those mustang GT's that everyone is beating with S2k's can't be real -- they have more torque than the S2k after all).

Of course with enough $$ you can make any car fast -- but stock for stock the GTI has nothing on the ITR. It accelerates much slower, stops much slower, corners much slower. It does have a nice interior though.

Is that flywheel or at the wheels? If it aint at the wheels you would be lucky to hang with a stock GSR.

-Steve (who sometimes reads the VW boards to get a good chuckle).
LOL...man...you sound as cocky as those ITR drivers.

I raced a couple of ITR's with my old 98 VR6...off the line the VR6 is rather heavy...but midrange was superb...and didn't need to break a sweat trying. My old Golf was a little lighter than my 24V GTI but the older car isn't much of a contest with my new one...it'll destroy it in midrange and topend

Mid 14's in a Type R??? LOL...have you ever tried launching an ITR properly to obtain mid 14's? Maybe one out of 100 drivers can do it and that's after thrashing the car many times over at a drag strip.

The Integra Type R is a full effort from Acura to make that car what it is. On the other hand VW has approached the market differently with the Golf. Usuable power is the underlying difference between the two...unless you want to be at full throttle ALL THE TIME, the ITR will be playing catch up in just about every where you can think of.

And for people who bitch about the handling of the Golfs...not even close to being as bad as people make them out to be. However, again, VW has unfortunately downplayed the superb chassis with mediocre suspension setups. And that really is too bad.
