Default Me vs. an E36 M3

This is my first race post so please bear with me.
It was pretty late and I was just on my way home after returning a tape at Blockbuster (Behind enemy lines) it was O.K but not as good as expected. As I pulled out and was passing by the mall I noticed a pair of bright lights approaching fast. As it pulled up on my left I could see that it was an E36 M3, it looked fairly stock as far as I could tell but being a long time fan of the M I had to stare. I could see that it was driven by a guy that was probably in his late twenties and had a passenger who appeared to be his girl so put down my window to tell the guy sweet ride but when I did he gave no response, he simply looked at me then his girl and smiled (laughed?? couldn't really tell). Well by the way he decreased his speed to match mine I figured he wanted to run'm. I had not raced anything since my CAI was installed and had only raced a RSX typeS, WRX, B16 hatch and SI since I got the S and was stock. The only race I had lost or to be more accurate was DESTROYED was against a stock C5, that was over before it started. So as you can imagine I was very curious to see how the S would do against the M. We were on a long stretch of road an it was about 11pm, not much trafiic, so we slowed to let what traffic there was move far enough ahead of us for a quick run, we were both in first an I was holding the revs at about 5800K I was about to set us off on 3 beeps when he suddenly he takes off on 2. Well I floor it and am already behind about a 1/4 car. I shift right before the cut off (right when redline lights up) and get a slight chirp from the tires, to my amazement I am now 1/4 a car ahead and by the time I was at the end of third I managed to extend the lead to about 1 3/4 cars, I slow down ,as my turn is coming up, to give the guy a thumbs up and he just keeps going.#$@%??? I know him having a passenger isn't really a fair race but I was very impressed with the performance of my S, I mean I did pull on him steadily. Has anyone had similar encounters with E36 M3's?

Nope, but one of my buds has an M3. I'm going to go him soon. It's pretty much a driver's race. Good Kill though

What I always wondered was that people always say S2K and E36M3 have same performance (straight line) and driver makes the difference. I agree with this one.

S52 M Roadsters (98-2000) are faster than E36M3 and it is proven by many articles as well as at various track records (1/4mile). However, when S2K people talk about S52 M Roadster and S2K, they again say that they have same straight line performance. What's wrong with this picture? Just something to think about...

I'm sure the passenger made a difference, but it seemed with each shift I pulled steadily on him. Regardless the E36 M3 is a sweet car but the S keeps a smile on my face.

i say NICE KILL.

even if he didn't have a passenger, it's a driver's race. i think you shifted great and overall, you got the win. good job! oh, and i too HATE the "ricer fly by". seems so immature....mutual respect should be the norm. hell, even if someone whips my butt, i still give him the unfortunately, not everyone can take the loss.

It was a nice feeling seeing the S make up ground and also pull some, maybe he did the ricer flyby so he could check out the front as much as he was checking out the back? J/K.

By the way when this happened I had 3100 miles and now that I have 4500 I can almost swear the S feels stronger. When do you all feel that the s2000 reaches its full capability 7K, 10K or is it just in my mind?

i've heard many ppl say that the S gets stronger as it gets more mileage. i'm at 4,500k also! my vtec used to be a bit inconsistent (more pull on some days, with same conditions), but it seems to have found its balance more so than before. i'm looking forward to more power out of my little baby as the mileage accumulates!~
