The word "Stage" is just a general term used to describe how far your mods have gone, and it breaks down about like this...
EM = engine management
EX = exhaust
Stock: (250 whp)
Stage 1: EM or EX (270 whp)
Stage 2: EM + EX (300 whp)
Stage 2.5: EM + EX + 20G/Meth inj/etc (350 whp)
Stage 3: EM + EX + FPGreen + supporting mods (400 whp)
Remember that everything I've written is a conservative estimate, and that all engines/dyno's are different.
Most STi's are "Stage 2", which is available new for as little as $750 (down-pipe/em). If you're seriously wanting 400 whp you're going to want an FPGreen set-up, which breaks down like this...
1. Forced Performance Green turbo: 3" inlet/34mm port/8cm
2. Gasket kit
3. Power Enterprises 850 injectors
4. Walbro 255 fuel pump
5. Samco inlet hose
6. Full 3" TBE
7. Engine Management
8. FMIC
9. Professional tune
As you can see, Stage 3 is not for the faint of heart, and can hit your wallet pretty hard. However, the car will last a very long time with this set-up, and will provide truly awesome performance on a consistent basis.
