Please explain how the EVO; which is a powerful version of the Lancer, and the STi; which is a powerful version of the Impreza, are not econo-based cars. I was under the impression that both base models of the Lancer and Impreza were geared towards the small sedan, economy car market.

You are totally missing the point.
I guess I must digress as well.

that's enough.
by the way, 2 quick facts.
A. there is no better performing ROADSTER than the S2000. so, when comparing cost, comparing other cars is like comparing apples and oranges. if you want to talk cost, then you can't ignore the car's classification either. someone shopping for a roadster isn't going to be shopping for a 4 door sedan sporty car, and vice versa.
B. the S2000 handles better than the EVO/STi. auto-x national championships for A-stock more than prove that.
