Correct, cause we all know the AP2 is quiet and tamed....

Get the newer car. No doubt about that being your best choice. I have an AP1, and *prefer* the AP1, but honestly, they're not for everyone, and you WILL be happier with the AP2. The car is both safer, and more robust. Given the small difference in price I personally think it would be silly to buy the older car (unless you're one of the oddballs who really wants one of the early cars, and if that's the case you need to find one with a nice big plastic rear window. )

Get the AP2. You'll love it.

i've got an 06, which is pretty much identical to the 07. VSA (traction control) is great if you'll be driving it through the winter. i like the styling better as well.

i'd figure you're good with an ap2.

I've had both. Traded my 02 for my 07. For you, the 07 is the way to go. Much more stable, much more forgiving, and overall a safer car for a newer driver.

bought my s2k myself three months after turning 20. never could be more happy. of course im anal about my ride, and baby her (tho i like to drive....uuh....."quick"). i've never even peeled out in her. its all up to the person. i say get the 07 - you'll enjoy having a newer car, and yes the 9k rpm's is nice, but as stated: if u want high revs get a bike. drive them both and then make your choice. maybe if u get the cheaper ride dad will upgrade your rims for you? (major thing i didnt like in ap1's was the miata-looking rims. just doesn't look like rims for a $30k+ roadster) also look at insurance prices as well as any upgrades u think you'd want to do. if u want to change a bunch of things out, doesn't make sense to get a new car to me. anyways good luck and i hope you like whichever you choose!

AP1s definitely have their merits. But the general public will find the AP2 a bit more pleasant.

Nevertheless, both are S2000s, and both are great

How does driving a FWD car like Civic help him mature in his driving skills? We all know Miata is a good practice car before the S2000. I drove FWD for 2~3 years with no single accident and was very confident in my driving until I purchased an S2000 which is very tail happy and being my first RWD car. Had many close calls but lucky enough to have managed to save it.

Anyways.... just get that AP1. It's 02 that comes with rear glass window and has a relatively low mileage. Don't need to spend so much $$ on your first car.

p.s. some of AP1 owners comments about AP2 were just pathetic. I guess we just can't avoid the fact that whenever this kind of topic arises, one dickhole AP1 owner has to chime in with his immature comments.

its personal preference, u have to drive both and see for yourself! U really got to know how to handle this car, one error and its over. S2000 is not a toy.
Who says that the S2000 is not a toy?!!

Since its a gift, Get the '07 AP2! Both are S2000 and you will be happy with either one anyways. The AP1 is kinda like the AP2s big brother. But the AP2 can kick the AP1s ass.. JK.. I dont want this to be another AP1 vs AP2 thread. lol
