Recently bought my S2k, and got a NIB replacement top since the current one is the original and the plastic window is opaque.

The seller said the top was an upgrade to glass/defrost, but looking at the box, it says:
"H102 Twillweave HG Glass/Defrost" and says it fits "2002-2008"

There are no instructions or anything else in the box.

I've heard that you can use that top on an earlier S2000, but you need a "retrofit" kit (straps?) and whatever else--but I don't know what all is needed, nor where to get it, nor even how to identify the top to contact the original manufacturer to get the straps, etc.

Any help/suggestions?

The other option is always to sell this top and buy a different one, but this one is here, in my garage, and I'd rather avoid trying to sell it and get another...

I went through the same thing with my 00 AP1 a few years ago. I bought an 02+ top hoping I could make it work. In the end, I got rid of it and bought an EZ-ON top (also look at the Robbins top) made for 00-01 with the glass window.

The 02+ top frame is different, so unless you want to swap the frame out it won't be a direct fit, and you'll need more than just straps as the spacing between the frame bars is slightly different from 00-01.

 

Bummer. But that's what I figured/feared.

I have the robbins glass window on my 01. Love it. Make sure you get the retro fit kit - with the straps

 

Ok, I found a Robbins Stayfast Cloth top w/glass and defroster (that I don't intend to hookup) that says it fits my year, and has the straps and hardware (bolts/rivets etc) so I guess I'll buy that one and try to sell mine since that's the easiest route.
