606, even though I'm a huge fan of S02s (I think I'm set #6) I don't think they're the absolute best tire for all drivers in all climates/conditions. I think a lot of drivers would be much better off on a tire that does better in the rain but gives up some dry grip (F1 GS-D3, for example).
You make an excellent point Billy and I agree.

I never really had issues with the S02's in the rain, well at least until I had 5-7k miles of wear on the rears, but you definitely need to curb the speed a bit in wet conditions. I guess I'm also too accustomed to living in the South and never having to deal with snow, so I never had the Blizzaks on the car either. I did try a set of Kumho's at one point, but I ended up pulling them off and selling them within the first 2,000 miles. They just didn't provide the same feel and grip I was used to.

If I end up back in another S2000 again, which would definitely be an AP1, Bridgestone will again be getting my business. Have you ever tried the F1 GS-D3's yourself? Since they give up a little grip to the S02's, I assume they probably wear a bit better. How many more miles do you think you could get out of a set of those rear's, compared to the S02's? 1-3k miles more maybe?

[quote name='ECale3' date='Jan 15 2009, 06:48 PM'] This was EXACTLY the kind of person bridgestone was hoping would buy the car when they accepted that contract too.

If you own an 00-03 model then the only tires that should be on the car are the Bridgestone S02's. Honda contracted Bridgestone to design those tires specifically for the S2000 and IMO they are the best tires for the job. Expensive? Yes. But if you can't afford the proper equipment for the car then you've already overextended yourself in the first place.

For those that don't know, or are new to their S2000, you have to ask specifically for the S02 made for the S2000 when buying your tires at most B&M's. If you just tell them you want S02's in the stock sizes you may very well end up with a Porsche tire.
but what if I own the 07?

what about aftermarket wheels owners?

If you ever track your car, then you would know the RT-615 is nowhere near RE-01R or the S02. They are however, the best bang for the buck. But don't even put it in the same sentence as far as performance go.

I had a set of the GS-D3. Note that for the OE AP1 size, the tires are considerably narrower than the "same size" S02, and there isn't a combination that gets you the proper widths and stagger. In the rain, the tires are absolutely amazing - I did some things which would have resulted in an S02 shod car being in the ditch. The dry grip is down a bit, and the sidewall is not as stiff so turn-in feel is quite a bit different. As a whole, I think this is a better tire for most S2000 (AP1 or AP2) drivers. I switched back to S02s after about 16k, if memory serves, with the fronts at about 5/32 and the rears at 1/32. I typically got about 10-12k on S02s (rear, twice as much in the front).

For what it's worth, in the spring I'll be putting RE-01Rs on my car. They are superior to the S02 in most, if not all, regards.

It's a bit weird discussing tires in a "memorial" thread...
