Looking at the fatal accident points out what I think is a major flaw in safety from Honda's Human Vehicle Integration team in AP1 S2000's. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed the huge distance from your head to the non-existent head rest, or what I call "plastic mesh", on AP1 seats (at least when you're driving in an ergonomically correct position). This distance provides a lot of room for your head to accelerate towards the "plastic mesh" and a lot more restitution energy for it to propel your head forwards and create some serious head/spine injury from whiplash. I think the seats look nice, but they are very unsafe if you ask me.

The seats were originally designed to accommodate helmets, this the distance in the headrest. Federal egulations changed seat design for 2008, fwiw.

Also, the S02 was designed with Bridgestone for the AP1, the RE050 for the AP2. Auto manufacturers working with tire companies is not uncommon or new, just be glad there are alternative tire choices so you don't pay ridiculous money for tires.

Wow this is really scary stuff. Having never owned a RWD car, what do I need to watch out for when I drive my future S? I have to admit that this stuff is almost making me second guess my impending purchase (though I'm sure I'll still end up pulling the trigger).

I also noticed that there were very few '06+ cars in this thread. I'm thinking that VSA may be saving a lot of drivers from dumb mistakes.

Sadly, most people that buy S2000s are too cheap to put the RIGHT tires on there, which are the OEM spec ones. Trying to save a few bucks can kill you. If you cannot afford to put the right tires on a car, do not buy it. Plain and simple.
I think its funny when people try to put nexens on this car.

Take. A. Performance. Driving. Class. (Or two or three.)

That will help you out far more than any tips you get on an internet bulletin board.

If that's not possible (or not possible right away), I suggest reading Speed Secrets (Bentley) and/or Going Faster! (Lopez).

Does that include the tip to take the class, from the internet bulletin board?

Of course! You learn much more from the class than from the tip to take the class.
