Default 1-2 grind fixed for 2002???

Not trying to start a huge debate or anything... I know that
there's few info already released about the upcoming 2002
S2000 (in US)... like rear glass window... new blue/silver color

For those that gets info from Japan... did they fix the 1-2 grind
for the upcoming 2002??? To me this is mor important than if
the rear glass window... (I'm a possible 2002 S2000 buyer)

Thanks a bunch,

My 01 VGS does not have the 1-2 grind problem ... Many of my friends who own export 01 models also don't have this problem. I don't see how 02 models will be affected ... ?

There was a running change to the synchros in the 2001 model that was supposed to minimize the occurance of the 1-2 grind. I believe this is the change that some posters are reffering to for the tranny improvement for 2002.

I have never experienced any grinding or notchiness that seems out of the ordinary. (my car only has 3k on it and I always double clutch for aggressive down shifting to 3rd, 2nd or 1st.)

I experienced the 1-2 grind for the 2nd time on my 2001 S2k today. My friend who drives a Prelude and used to work with Honda tells me it would be best to get it looked at. Both times it has happened when I tried to shift very quickly. He said the clutch sometimes needs time to engage between 1st and 2nd and I should give it more time. However, after driving it himself and feeling the grind once more, he told me the clutch was taking too long to engage.

I though they had fixed the 1-2 grind for the 2001 models. Should I get this checked out or is it just something in my driving?

Also, if this happens a couple more times, is my transmission going to go out?

Do some searches.. you will find more reports and speculation on the transmission than you can stand.

I recently bought a 2001 S2K (I love it) & I'm puzzled... I have read about the 1-2 grind and its' fix for the 2000 model. I have a different problem. I have a slight grind going into 3rd! Only 3rd. The Honda dealer agrees that there is a slight grind feeling, but that that is the way it is supposed to be. They say they called the factory and Honda told them that. They refuse to work on it. I don't want to have the tranny go out just after warranty and I do not like the way it feels. I shiver when the grind occurs. It is a slight one like the syncros are slightly worn. The T5 5-speed in my 66 Mustang shifts better than that.

I took my car into the local dealer and they said they would replace the "shift fork" for 2nd and 5th gear under the warranty and that should fix the problem.

I don't want to be without my Stook for a whole week though.

Hi Wolfie

I'd press the matter. It's outrageous that they're telling you that a grinding shift is normal. This isn't a Trabant. It's Honda's sports car flagship. As a matter of fact it's the most expensive Honda offered in North America (in the rest of the world Acuras are not baloney badged, but are rather badged for what they are, Hondas.) I'd write American Honda, or have your lawyer draft a polite terror-gram.
