2.2L Engine swap
The real advantage to the swap isn't increased HP, it's the ability to go through your gears while keeping your car in Vtec. That way you will never drop out of your powerband gear to gear. This is not a Dyno queen mod, but without question it is a performance enhancer.
i get that, sweet. can someone think of a downside to this mod assuming you're out of warranty?
does the 2.2 engine drop off power at 9k? the way billman made it sound is that it pulls to the end.

The only downside I can see is for the guys in ap2's, only swapping the ecu into their car, not knowing when they are 9k. But then we are back to the issue of where to find a JDM cluster.
no prob, the ecu will stop for u when u get there or u can estimate it.
by what ur saying, it should make more power than stock at the top.
how much is an ecu and new key? does it matter if u get a 01 or 02 ecu?

it says 00-01's ecu's are more rich then 02-03...so 00-01 would be the one u want.
there is much more info in this thread thou. but that should answer that part of it
Getting the keys created that work with the Ap1 ECU is the big issue, and power does drop off in both the ap1 and ap2 towards the top. Check the dynos previous page. You don't get much more (if any) HP. But you do get more engine, which helps performance wise.
my car has been running an 00-01 ECU for thousands and thousands of miles
I recently swapped back to the AP2 ecu to compare, the car feels the slightest bit more powerful with the AP2 ecu, which is negated by the ability to rev further to maintain power after the shift, so you really miss that extra 1000rpm once its gone.
I also appear to get 2-3 more mpg when using the AP1 ecu.

I think its the best of both worlds, you get the improved low end with the F22 but still have the 9k redline on an ap1. One thing that I have noticed is that the F22 burns much less oil.
Deathsled, you ever go cruisin in High Point?
