Default 2001 stock leather console cover

Has anyone else had problems with separation or deterioration of the leather cover at the back of the '01 console? Mine began to warp after only about 10,000 mi. It was repaired under warranty, but came unattached at the rear driver's side again later. This time the dealer replaced the whole console assembly. Now, it has separated again. I don't think that I have abused it and only have about 26,000 miles now. It's back to be repaired again. Any thoughts?

Leather shrinks if not properly cared for. That sound like the problem you are having. What do you use to care for the leather in your car?

Any rain in the interior=bad. Leather does not like getting wet and drying, it causes it to dry, shrink and possibly crack. If you are getting ANY rain in your car, you're doing something wrong. I know this will annoy a lot of peeps who seem to take pride in driving with the top down in more and more heavy rain. That's their choice, I will never drive in rain topless. I do realize that the cabin stays dry at speed in the rain, but when it rains in my area, it's typically for days. If you're actually getting rain water into the cabin this could be causing your issues with the center console. I have 54k or so miles on my 01 without ever having any issues with the center console. Along with leather deterioration, you can have mold and musty smell issues from carpet and padding underneath the carpet. Keep your interior dry.

Hope this helps.

I think the MY01 does not have a leather console, I think it is "carpet" just like the MY00. But even for the models that come with what looks like leather, I think it is only vinyl immitation. If it is real leather cover on your console, then it is probably an after-market product such as Rick's or Muz's.

There was no factory console cover in the '01 cars other than carpet.

He is talking about the leather arm rest on the center console. All model years have one.
