1800 miles and Ive only added 1/4 of a quart. My '01 consumed at least a full quart at this point. Every engine is slightly different. It probably depends more on tolerances than how the car is driven in the first 4000 miles.

since you and I have consumed just about the same oil, HOw did you drive yours for the first 600 miles.

I drove mine very mild except once which I revved it to about 7,000 when it had 400 miles on it. Im trying to get a rough idea here, thanks............I drove mine pretty easy for the first 600 miles. After about 1,500 miles I drove her a little harder from time to time.

I have 2700 miles on my blue 02 and added 3/4 quart today which brought it back to full. I drove it like they told me for the first 600 and have wound it up several times a day in first second and third since. Around here there aren't may places to wind up 4th or more.

all this talk about oil level prompted me to check mine again this afternoon down 2-x's now or about a third of a quart... i'll probably top it off this weekend... what is the stock oil weight -- 10w/30?

Any automotive store like Pep Boys will have it.

And now I have to retract my previous statement about zero oil consumption. I checked at 2200 and it was right at the top. Now at 2800 I was 1/2 quart low. I used Penzoil as they didn't have Non-synthetic Castrol or Mobil1 in stock.

Anybody else have brand name preferences? The Dinan guys at the BMW dealership swear by Castrol (but who knows if they have a Marketing agreement), so that's what I try to use.

Hey all,

I read this site long before i bought my baby in august of last year, so I knew that the about the break in period before i even left the dealership. The day i brought her home, i called my bud who has been a Honda/Acura tech since the dawn of time. He said, don't be afraid to VTEC that thing every hundred miles or so to make sure things get broken in the way you intend to drive the car after the period is over. Here is what I have observed:

My car used some oil between 18 and 1000 miles approx .75 quart. After that, it used mabye a half a quart between 1000 and 3750 when the factory oil was removed.

In addition, several people with S2's have driven my car and they all said that mine felt faster than theirs. Interesting huh. I thought so. We ran a rather unscientific test between mine and a friend of mines. Both completely stock 01's with similar miles. The only diffrence that we could ponder was that he NEVER revved his over 4.5k before first 1000 miles (That must have been pure hell). We made this as fair as possible, rolling 10 mph start hit the gas when we hit this bump up the road. Right away i started to pull ahead, by a hundred, i was a solid two car lengths past him. Again there are variables but, I have experienced this with several other S2000's. Did I just get that proverbial loved on engine from the factory, or does the break-in period really have an effect on performance?

I'm sure we will never know for sure, just my .02 cents worth..

Peace, Kristian
