Once you sidestep the clutch at 8K RPM you will forget all about the lack torque!

 

I would venture a guess that people who can't or don't understand or appreciate the qualities of the s2000 are apt to quote statistics that they read to slam the car - torque being the case here.

I am not a car guru - I have learned a lot on this site, and UNDERSTAND how the torque may on paper be an issue, but in reality is NOT.

 

I bought my car with 25 miles on it. Who knows how it was driven? I bet many others are in the same position. Hope for the best.

 

You hit the nail right on the head. The thing to remember is the S2K is all about cornering speed. Torque becomes less of an issue when you can exit a corner 10-15 MPH faster than say a Camaro SS or the like. The S2K is all about finesse. In the hands of a properly skilled driver an S2K is like a scalpel in a highly skilled surgeons hand. I do have to admit though that it is one heck of a blast to sidestep the clutch at 8K RPM!

My car had 64km/35miles on the odo when I picked it up....Im not concerned, Ill still give it a proper break in. If you think a few runs to the redline is bad at 14miles, its really not...

At the factory each car goes thru a few dyno tests where the engine is run to redline in each gear. On top of that each car is driven on an outside drive where its put thru its paces to check the quality and functionality of all components. They also check if the engine will run properly up to redline, check brakes, steering...everyting...

As long as the car has less than 100kms/62miles when new its just as good as a car with 8kms.....

Where did you hear this?!

Having actually visited the plant in Tochigi, I saw nothing of the sort. The only "dyno" type of test is one that all finished cars sit on rollers so that the speedo is tested for accuracy...nowhere NEAR redline is reached! The maximum speed that I actually saw with my own eyes was 45 kph and they told us it was just to test the accuracy of tach and speedo.

They check everything, but they do NOT redline the car...and to the best of my knowledge, they don't test drive every car either. There is a very short testing ground behind the plant, but that's it. Every car isn't driven on it...

Please be accurate in what you say, because what you said isn't...

 

I didnt hear this, I know this. Every car Honda makes goes thru this. Every car is Dynoed, Every car is checked and driven to detect any assembley problems. This is same with any of the other Japanese Manufacturers. This is Honda not GM. GM is one of the manufacturers that I know of that only checks a random number of cars. Any problems found are delt by the Dealerships who are suppose to detect problems at PDI and repair them. Not Honda, honda builds and ships quality products remember??

I'm not going to debate you...but what you said isn't correct. You may work for Honda Canada, I don't know. But I have actually visited the plant in Tochigi/Takanezawa. We toured the whole facility and what you are saying happens doesn't happen there...

Torque?

If you want this, the S2000 is not the car your looking for. But if you still want one, just buy it and then supercharge it with a Vortech. That should keep you interested for awhile.
