When I reach about 6000 rpm in second gear my car seemingly backs down(rpm's drop and a jolt is felt as if I just hit something. What's going on?????MY2001.

I felt such a jolt right at 6K RPM too! It was pretty violent deceleration with a sudden drop in RPM. It seems to happen if my engine isn't completely warmed up (3 bars on the temp guage), in 1st or 2nd gear. Once warmed up, I can VTEC again. I have a '03 with 800 miles on it.

Could that be the reason? Anyone w/ a more technical explanation?

If the car is not warmed up, it will not VTEC, and the rev limitter will shut the engine down. It should still go to about 7K RPMs before hitting the rev limitter, but it won't VTEC. If you have 3 bars on your temp gauge, and it won't go to 6K RPMs, then you have a problem.
