If convertible, quick steering and precise handling are not the important factors then get 350Z.
350Z will have more sedan-like ride, steering and handling not to mention the extra low-end torque.

get the s2000, and if you're still yearning for some Nissan VQ, the winningest engine in North Am. yada yada yada, get a G35 (in addition to the S).

i don't think the 350Z cabrio will be as much of a head-turner as the S, as the former was designed as a coupe first, then had its roof chopped off to appeal to a wider range of customers. the S, however, was designed as a roadster first.

plus, that Z has some ugly-ass taillights. they remind me of that Star Trek guy with the funky glasses.

All roadsters turn heads.... People will always look at you when you have the top down, on a Ferrari or a Miata.....

well, let me rephrase:

both cars will be head-turners, but the Z won't be as crisp and clean as the S. chopping off the roof ruins the lines of the hardtop Z

I think the Roadster version looks better than the hardtop version. Performance is a diferent story.

I see a lot of people saying that there will be more 350ZX's on the road and that you should therefore buy the S2000. I say: who gives a sh!t? I'm long past trying to impress anyone with the kind of car I drive. Drive both - buy the one you like the most. Price seems comparable between the two. Mostly, the choice seems to be whether you want a comfortable, but athletic GT car or a more minimalist, but razor-sharp roadster.

Best of luck.

My car will be 3 years old next month. I received 3 comments this week end. 1. Your car is absolutely stunning (coffee shop) 2. I dont know what an S2000 is, can you tell me more about it as I love it (Parking Garage) 3. I cant wait till my kids are out of college and I can get an S2000 and I love your silverstone(Gas station) Think you will elicit those comments when your 350Z is 3 years old?

carlson, you know that photo is a CG, right? it was PhotoShopped; I've seen the original photo... nevertheless, the proportions are not lovable at all, there's simply too much mass below the shoulder line, and without the rear windshield, the butt end looks remarkably similar to the TT (this can be taken as a compliment or an insult, I think the latter) but with some reverse rake and concave arch. But that's just judging by that fake photo... we'll see

Depends on what you want. S2000 is not for everyone and there's plenty of low-milage used ones for sale from people who bought one without really thinking about it.

I like the 350Z and have to admit that it has a good performance/dollar ratio. So does the Subaru WRX for that matter. From what i've read, the first 6,000 350Z are sold out already, so you're either gonna pay a huge premium or have to wait. You could probably pick up a used '00/'01 S2000 for a reasonable amount this fall and put an order in for the 350Z and drive the S2000 while you wait the year for the Nissan.

Anyways, you really can't lose with either car.
