I WOULD NOT HAVE THE DEALER DO THIS.

This guys haev no clue on whats going with this upgrade. Aytime they change a rear end, they get a complete one from japan and install it that way.

Go to a local speed shop that has dealt with rear ends in the past, you will have far more luck with them. a local guy said he would charge me 300 for install and calibration.

i'll probably go to 4.77 from 4.44's . i plan on running oversize tire in rear that have greater outside diam., 25.1-25.9in, therfore i'll lose torque multiplication. also this will allow me to easily change final drive by swapping wheels for different tracks or applications.

so if you are worried that 4.77 is too much, you can easily reduce it with larger tire diameter, and there are desirable tire widths that can be only had in the larger diam./larger aspect ratio.

anyone who is not happy with 4.77 gears, we can swap or you can make me a deal i can't refuse.

Okay, so I won't be taking this to my dealer $300 for install isn't too bad, I can't wait to get this mod working. Has everyone that has completed this upgraded recalibrated their speedo?

a stock s2k usually traps the 1/4 in about 155-160kmh right? thats means u still have to shift into 4th gear and be there for quiteawhile.....
i think the best gear for 1/4 would be one that crosses the 1/4 line pretty much near redline...

(ie same no of shift as stock)

been quite reasonable except for the business about improving drag strip times accordingly by % gear reduction.
Well Thanks for making me look stupid. But there would be no extra shift with the 4.44's in the quarter mile. But what about the 4.77 When is the shift to fifth gear using this gear. I would also think the 4.77 would be to high for nitrous applications with the 4.1 if i press the button at 5000 or 6000 rpm in first gear with proper bottle pressure ii'll break loss all the way to the redline. With the 4.77 i can see ya breaking loose in second gear with the nitrous. unless ya used a progressive system. But anyway has anybody got the gears and tried a 1/4 mile run....i know its a roadster not a dragster but has anyone tested these for times....hell even g-tech times. There has to be a formula if all things where equal like amount of shifts that could figure out the reduction in time for the quarter mile...after all these are a mechanical reduction there has to be a formula to apply.

Hey IB, this was not my intention. Just wanted to point out that it may not be accurate or applicable to say that an 8-15% change in rear gear ratio would produce an 8-15% change in 1/4 mile times. Too many other factors at play here.

I would be interested in a group buy. After reading this thread I think I am leaning towards the 4.77, but I'm not sure. XVIPER what do you think about your 4.44's? Is there any part of you that wishes you went with the 4.77. Also, how did you make your decision. At sometime in the future (after my wife gets over me buying the S2k this year), I would like to buy a sc like a vortech. How would 100+ extra horsepower effect drivability with the 4.44 and 4.77 gears? BTW, I typically drive on back roads with 50-55 mph speed limits and highways.
