4.44 final gear vs. 4.77
NoMoreWRX, please forgive my "slowness" but I'm losing you here. Your last two posts, are they related or are you making two different points?
ie. Is your question about the engine being out of VTEC on the 1/2 shift and your P.S. intended to be related? I can't see how one has to do with the other.
And which GTS are you referring to?

It won't be anything like a 4.11 gearing with 270 HP, or like an SC'ed S, because of the lower max speeds in each gear. You will be able to pull ~16% harder up to 84% as fast, then shift. A 4.11 geared car will be able to stay in the lower gear after you have already had to shift to the next higher gear. Basically, the 4.77s will pull on the 4.11s until the the 4.77 car shifts to 2nd, then the 4.11 car will catch up a bit, until the 4.11 car has to shift to 2nd, then the 4.77 car will start to pull away again, until the 4.77 has to shift to 3rd, then the 4.11 car will start to catch up again ...
I'd think that as the time in gear increases the extra shifting would have less of an effect.
Ok from 0-60 the 4.11 should be nearly as quick (because of the extra shift for the 4.77s).
First and second total to like 5.8 seconds (being nice) so the extra shift to third (.5 seconds) has a decent effect.
But as you go up in gears the 4.77 should pull away and stay away.
0-100 14.2 seconds or so
4 shifts stock (2 seconds shifting)
5 with 4.77s? (2.5 seconds shifting)
The extra shift adds about .5 seconds. I'd think by then though the 4.77 car would be ahead quite a bit by then. Because of the 16% increase in thrust.

I agree with most of what you are saying, except for the extra .5 second shift adding .5 seconds to 1/4 mile time (if that's what you are saying). Keep in mind that the .5 seconds is just time that the car will not be accellerating, but it is still going. I think the .5 second additional shift might only add .1 second to the 1/4 mile time.
