4th gear pop out
Ok, so here is the real deal. Now I think that what happened was neither pop out nor the rev limiter. This morning I headed wo work and revved up to just over the VTEC limit in first gear. The engine choked in a very similar manner to the rev limiter but it was not redlined nor did the shifter come out of gear.
Any ideas?

You really should start a new thread.
But: Two things are possible here:
1) Engine is not hot enough, if you don't have 3 bars at the temp gauge VTEC is disabled and the revlimiter will kick in. WHY? Because it''s very very bad for a car not to wait for the engine to heat up.
2) Too few oil. If the oil is too low VTEC is also disabled.

I kind of figured it might be a temperature management thing but had seen nothing in the literature. But if that is the case, I would have expected to see others mention this behavior as I am sure I am not the only person in the world ever to tach up before the engine was warmed up. Or am I?

I have a 2001 S2K with ~5,000 miles. I've had it for almost a year and have babied this car.
Experiencing the 4th gear pop-up only at constant speeds, just like some others.
I want to get this fixed (under warranty) but fear that the dealer will screw something up. Any body have this fixed in the Charlotte NC area?

[B]Why don't people use the search function, I found three earlier threads about this.
Because those threads were created when the 4th gear pop out was "fresh". Now we have more experiences. We have the problem but are waiting for Honda to get enough data to issue a TSB and/or enough experienced Techs to do the repair right. The 2002 has a "sturdier" tranny.
