Default 60k mile service

So my car now has almost 59k miles on it, and I figure I'll be at 60k before the end of July.

My question for you guys that have 60k or more on your car...who did you go through for the 60k service? How much did you pay, and did they try to get you to buy "ripoff" services

i read somewhere a guy got ruipped into getting a transmission flush...which isnt recommmended until 120k miles?....

but back to the original.....how much should I pay for the 60k mile service? and are you guys using the dealership?

I did not take my car to Honda for the 60k service. I bough my fluids (Tranny and Diff) online and brought them to my favorite independent shop and watched them do the whole thing. I was only charged $56 for labor; which is likely less than Honda would charge.

60k service is easy.

ere is a breakdown if you do the work yourself, as well as a link for each DIY in the FAQ that we have in this forum.

1) Change oil and filter - $17 with havoline GF4 and a PCX filter.
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70348

2) Replace air filter - $25 with OEM filter.
we have no DIY for this, but it's extremely easy to do. post if you need help.

3) Inspect drive belt - not really necessary

4) Replace transmission fluid - $8 for 2 quarts of Honda MTF
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83577

5) Replace diff fluid - $7 for 1 qt Mobil 1 75w90 (i think it's $7)
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99995

6) Inspect brakes - this should be checked. most good dealerships will do this free of charge. If you actually need to change your pads, here's the DIY:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=123081

7) Replace brake fluid - $6 for some DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid.
I can't find the DIY for this at the moment.

8) Check parking brake - what? really? come on....

9) Replace cabin filter - $20 for the cabin filter. it'll take you not even 5 minutes to change it yourself.
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=145495

10) Lubricate hinges, locks and latches - not necessary

11) Check tire pressure - tell me you do this anyways....

12) Inspect suspension and steering - again, likely not necessary.

Credit should be given to Wisonsin.

if you dont take the car to Honda to get the scheduled services done, wont it void the warranty?

I just took my car in to get a 15k service and they wound up talking me into getting the 30k service instead since it is still 5yrs old. ( i only have 14,500 miles on it and its a 2001) They said they recomended the 30k service because the fluids still break down after time. Wound up costing me twice as much. I got my car from a private dealer so I kinda wanted the piece of mind of having it inspected and serviced at a Honda dealer after purchasing to make sure everything is in order. I got the car with a 2yr extended factory warranty from Honda so I dont wanna void that, but I would rather do the stuff myself if I could.

Just keep the receipts for your fluids like oil, diff fluid, etc and keep good records.

wow that's it? i also am almost there...probably 56k now. i've already done half the stuff myself before...no way will i take it to the dealership. i just need to get someone to check my drive belt (starting to sound unhealthy) and flush my brakes. thanks for the post.

just curious, for the people that did go to a dealership, how much were you charged? i'm guessing upwards of $600?

It doesn't void the warranty if you don't have a Honda dealership service your car. However, in my experience, it is easier getting warranty service or any kind of help when you've done business there.
