The most revs i've seen in 6th gear is 8500 and my speedo was reading 157mph.

I don't believe there's enough power above 8,300 rpm to overcome the aero drag to redline in sixth; maybe with a big tail wind?

You got it. I know the place and I thought that nobody would ever mention this. It was too obvious.

On I-83 I hit flashing redline in 5th and was going 144, top down and all. The car didn't seem to have much beyond that, although I was going slightly uphill before I let off.

i was going 150mph on the I-15 racing a motorcycle. The bike wasn't passing me. I don't know if he didn't want to or couldn't. I didn't realize how fast i was going until i let off and the motorcycle flew right past me I haven't done it since

The bottom line is that the car (stock) WON't hit redline in 6th (at least on level ground). Not enough horsepower. In fact most cars are that way. Top gear is kind of an overdrive and so most cars will not redline in top gear. The S2000 would go slightly faster if it had a gear between 5th and 6th because what you want is a gear that lets the car hit it's maximum speed at the RPM at which it develops maximum HORSEPOWER, not redline. It's HORSEPOWER that overcomes friction and wind resistance.

just to add to the statistic, I have witnessed a stock hitting 158mph with top-up.

Try 161mph with top down all stock, at night, all for about 15 secs all i can remember is that the car was still pulling ... it was me and an itr on our way to MA, from nyc , blew past the trooper he turn the lights on then we never saw him again the typer had lots of mods to it and was behing me so prob about 148-154 he was doing. Only did that once, i do 140 all the time though it is a rush ! I need to mount a cabin camera to record this! I90 and I84 of course you got cops but at those speed whos gonna get you, just make sure you exit before you reach the next speed trap.

Since most of these "stories" are on the street - I hope you all have your wills ready!

Seriously, make sure you are not passing anyone - the slightest change in direction (or attempted change in direction) will mean THE END. Even some animal or debris in the road would be catastrophic...
