Default Advice Needed

Hey guys.....I need some advice...I'm currently negotiating the purchase of my first S2....It is a 2000 Formula Red,with 26k on the odometer......It was owned by an older gentleman who used it for his weekend car....It's very clean,like showroom new.....Anyway,my question is,since this is the first model year of the S2 is there anything that I need to be concerned about and at 20k is this a good price?????

Thanks for the help.......

Borderline on the price, although I have a MY00 and I think its worth double that!!!! (Biased?)

Be careful of the old "old lady/man........weekend car......never driven" hard line of BS. Unless ofcourse you know the older gentleman first hand. That would be different.

As for the model year, there are some issues to look for;

Recalls on seat belt retractor and spark plugs

2nd gear grinds when cold - but all years exhibit this

Clutch Buzz - still an OEM part issue

Wimpy Oil Banjo Bolts that were upgraded in subsequent years.

Plastic rear window - this is personal preference. I really like the larger size compared to the glass (MY02+) rear window. Maintenance is more involved in order to keep the plastic clear, but mine is still like new.

Weak stereo - lower wattage than MY02+, with only two door speakers. After '02, door tweeters were also added, but the overall system is still considered very weak. Go aftermarket in any year.

My head hurts.........time to give someone else a shot at this one.

Good luck,
Hockey

oh and you will get alot more responses if your TITLE is more specific. Many of us will skip right by the general headings like the one you chose. Next time...

Get a matt to put in the rear tray. MUZ (site sponsor) makes a nice Roof Well Matt, that fits right in there and keeps the folded window from coming in contact with the hard plastic tray.

Also, I use "Blue Magic - Plastic & Plexiglass Cleaner". It applies like a paste wax for your paint. Rub onto surface, let dry, buff with seperate cloth. Comes out great. A little dust from the paste, but run the vacuum after that and you are fine. I only do this about once a month AT MOST - more like every other month.

Finally, there is a new product developed by one of our members. It uses elastic bands to help make sure the window folds properly and doesn't crease when folding. I picked these little do-dads up, and am pleased. I'll have to find the link to these.
