Default Another One Bites the Dust...

A little over a week ago, my poor baby met our biggest nemesis- The Distracted Teenage Driver. I was driving home from the grocery store, had a green light approaching an intersection, (speed limit 45, and I'd seen cops out on my way to the store, so I was doing 47-48), and a driver coming the other direction decided to make a left turn to a highway on-ramp without making sure the intersection was clear (unprotected, i.e. no arrow left turn). She made the turn just as I hit the white line for the stoplights, and despite my best efforts, I was still moving at about 20-25 miles/ hour when I plowed into the passenger side of her car.

Unfortunately for me and my baby, she was driving an '01 Volvo V70 station wagon. The driver, an 18 year old girl, didn't even realize I was there until after the impact. Hopefully her parents have good insurance.

Cops clearly cited her for being at fault for failure to yield to oncoming traffic, but I'm not sure yet if she's going to be totalled or not- what do y'all think?

Glad you're okay...any frame damage?

Don't see that any airbags deployed so I'd say it's fixable

I am, aside from a badly bruised knee, but insurance is taking care of that.

I'm not sure- possibly in the front right corner over the wheel, I couldn't tell if that was panel or frame that was buckled from just a cursory inspection. Obviously that side of the car took the worst of the impact, but you're correct, neither airbag deployed. My fingers are crossed...

Was she distracted or just an idiot? I would have killed her.

Oh, to say that I was pissed would be an understatement, but I had to make sure she was ok first- the impact blew the side curtain airbags on her car and buckled in the doors on the passenger side pretty good. Plus, I'm a big black dude- 6'1", 245 lbs. I'm pretty sure she was already scared to death of me once she realized what she'd done.

I was expecting your car to look much worse considering your speed.
Glad you're OK, hopefully your car can be fixed like new.

The important thing is that no one got seriously hurt. Hopefully your knee and your S will have a speedy recovery!
