Any of you guys install remote start on your S2000?
Clifford's top of the line alarm system makes you press a few buttons on the remote while the engine is on, E-brake on, and clutch up, and the interior lights blink twice, then you take the keys out, get out of the car, arm the system, and it shuts off the engine. Now if the alarm was triggered by either the motion sensor or shock sensor, you won't be able to start it remotely.
This system allows you to program the car to start in a time interval you'd like for whatever reason, charge the battery, keep the interior warm/cool, etc. ..... in another word, it works like a turbo timer; some of us baby the car to the extreme, so after i push my car to its limit, i always leave the engine running for about 5 - 10 minutes before shutting it down, even though my car doesn't have a blower, but i was told it prolongs the motor's life span.

[B]ok, before the myths get too far out of hand - most GOOD autostarters (mostly those packaged with alarms, i.e. Clifford) require the user to go through a process to prove to the system that the car is in neutral before exiting the car - so you can't start it in gear if you didn't go through the check.

How's it a headache when there are systems to prevent you from making stupid mistakes and it does its intended job with no problems?
Like I said in my original post, it's a "nifty" item. Definitely not a must-have, but really cool for just having it on the car. My car's my toy and I will treat it like such.
So what if I don't want any alarms... just the remote start? How much? Which brand(s)?

It is possible to have a remote starter on Manual transmissions. My local alarm installer started out using Clifford and Viper Alarm systems...but quickly stayed with Viper and stop using Clifford. He didn't like Clifford that much....too expensive and too much problems from customers.
This is how he explained it to me....
remote starter on manual transmission will only start if the car is in neutral...and once you lock your car for the night and put the setting in. It'll start in the morning. If let just say your brother went out to the car in the middle of the night to get something....since the door was open...it will not start in the morning.
So, once you set it. It will only work if the door wasn't open until you auto start the car. As of the immobilizer...you usually have two master key and a grey valet key...you would have to scarifice the valet key...and install that in the car somewhere.

I have remote start in my s2k. I put it in myself, however I have a device that goes around the shifter so that if it is in gear the car will not start. I also do not ever leave my car in gear. I have done this on my friends cars only because of the liability issue. but I have 3 cars that are sticks all with remote starts. There is also a system called compustar that is legal to put in a manual car, we charged 599 to have it done. It cost so much because of the 2 way pager that the system uses. I personally dont like it and would never use anything other than a viper.
to bypass the immobilzer system the modual stillneeds a key so you are going to loose one either way. Also to bypass the cluth problem ,when pressed the cluthc pedel sends a ground pulse to the ecu telling the car to start, this is bypassed my using a fused jumper link. ordinarilly this means that even if you start the car with the key you no linger have to press the clutch in to start the car, however this is not the case with the s2k, i still have to press ithe clutch in to start it normally.
