An old credit card and some 3M adhesive remover will take it off without messing up the paint. I've also heard of people using WD-40, but I don't know what effect, if any, it will have on the paint.

WD-40 generally works Ok for removing tape residue and road tar. By my experience, so far, it won't hurt the paint but I also wash and re-wax that area ASAP when I'm done.

There are products on the market that are designed to remove bug guts, road tar, etc., and are probably safer for your car's finish. You'd probably be better off in the long run with these but if you do use the WD-40, give it a good cleaning afterwards to be on the safe side.

Try some Goo-Gone and if that doesn't work I'm sure WD40 will do the trick. Definitely polish and wax the area afterwards.

DONT USE GOOGONE ON PAINT.
I used it when my car was black, within a few seconds and about 6 or 7 rubs, my paint was fading and it literally turned yellowish-white.

3M Adhesive Remover (any auto parts store should have it) and a lot of elbow grease!
