I was more referring to it needing to be properly tuned. It sounds like this member wants to wire up the vafc and lower the vtec point so it kicks in sooner.
cool

I love all the brilliant suggestions above... I'm surprised none of you suggested nitrous.

First things first... an answer. Yes, you can lower VTEC, but as previously explained, without appropriate adjustments in at least the a/f ratio it won't run right. Another thing to consider is that VTEC eats gasoline. With VTEC engaged, you're most likely getting between 10-15MPG. Additionally, a lowered VTEC will adversely affect drivability on the street.

If you're going to seriously track the car, then get an EMS and really get the car tuned properly to take advantage of lowered VTEC points. On my F20 race motor, I had it set around 3900RPM, on my F22 the optimal turned out to be around 4300. These motors were for the track only.

If your life's ambition is to peel out and beat Evos from stoplight to stoplight, buy an SRT4. S2000s are for cornering!

If you have to do it in an S2000... f/i and/or steeper gears are your best bet.

Hey all... I was wondering... is the apexi vtech controller the only thing i need to get in order to have my vtech kick in at a lower rpm? please let me know cause i would be really interested in knowing what needs to be done.

Thanks for your help!
When VTEC engages the ECU has to use different maps, so if you change the VTEC engagement point you need to be sure the map is also switched. As long as this is done tuning should not be absolutely necessary, but if it were me I'd still want to check the A/F just to be safe.

As others have pointed out, this is a mod that won't gain you much. With the crossover point at 6k the car never drops out of VTEC when being driven hard. Once you're above 6k in first you stay there, so a lower engagement point would, at best, only be of benefit in first gear, and even that is questionable, because ... If you're trying to accelerate as quickly as possible you'll be dropping the clutch at 6k, and the car will stay in VTEC from the clutch drop all the way to the drag limited top speed. Leaving VTEC crossover at 6k has the advantage of providing superior ecomony, torque, and drivability, between idle and 6k, giving a range and power band that is quite good for daily driving.

Once you've made other mods changing the crossover point might make more sense but there are better/easier/surer ways to increase the output of a stock motor.

A Vafc on a stock S2000 won't do you any good. Lowering your vtec point may do more harm than good. If you want to see some decent gains go with a good header, single exit exhaust, Vafc, 4.77 gears, and more importantly some tuning. The gears alone will get you into vtec quick enough
recheck the first post, i'm not the one asking the question. i know what a vafc is.

Thanks all for the input... I kinda have an idea on what i need to do. i've been checking out the 4.57 gear, vafc, and single exhaust... and seems like that might a be good first step.
