that rubber helps that the lip does not rub the bumper

Yes, as mentioned before it is SUPPOSED to be on there from the factory. It's uses are two-fold. One to provide a flush mount between the lip and the bumper, and two, to prevent road debris from getting in there and possibly putting scratches on your bumper.

I believe the rubber is black on most colors, but it is a lighter grey color on the GPW ones like mine. I left it on, and I think it looks better with it on. I have seen both.

 

It is also grey on mine. It looks better with it IMO.

 

I like the look with it on, just defines the sexy lines the car has even more!

 

Looks like ass WITHOUT the rubber gasket IMO.
Looks OEM with it adding that finishing touch to perfect fitment and keep water dirt and grime from getting inbetween and degrading the adhesive tape at an eccelerated rate.
