Default Bad ballast

Honda determined my drivers side ballast is bad. They wanted $700 to fix it. I found some used ballasts on ebay. My question is, is there a difference between the passenger side and drivers side ballasts? Or are they the same?

They are the exact same. If you can take the bumper off and headlights out, it's a relatively easy job.

How did they determine that? Did they remove the headlight itself to test it out?

I've been told both sides are the same.

My right side been out since I purchased the car. I tried putting new bulbs and that didn't work. So I'm sure it's most likely the ballast. I'm just too lazy to fix it and I rarely drive my car.

Post in the WTB section. I've seen them for sale on the site for pretty good price. It's an easy job. DO NOT pay Honda or any other shop $700. Are they insane ?

You don't have to take the whole headlight out to test. Just swap bulbs side to side and see if the problem still exists. If it still doesn't work on a bulb that you know works, its the ballast.

Thanks guys, huge help! Idk how Honda tested it, I bought the car with the headlight out and have the paperwork from honda saying it's a ballast. I'll probably still try swapping bulbs just to make sure they weren't trying to pull a quick one on the previous owner. I've found them used for about $150.

How about the igniters? Did you consider that going bad?

700$ is insane.

Just buy it used or for way cheaper. Or even new for way less than 700.
