Best shifting point on a cold engine?

i dont understand why people have to rev to 5k rpm while driving normally. the car offers enough torque at ~3k rpm to get moving, especially with the extra short gearing.

Sometimes, I shift at 2.5K just to save gas.
IMO, during normal driving, it has more than enough torque to get moving at 2.5-3K, unless you race. Shifting at 5K during normal driving is ridiculous for any car, IMO.

I agree you shouldn't shift too low but 2.5k seems ok - there isn't that low rumbling bogging sound (maybe if you floored it from 2.5k but not when you're accelerating slowly). But any lower than 2.5k and yes it sounds like you're bogging. What do you think?
