Not really. Those two threads are both in the forum titled "off topic" which is for off topic posts, surprisingly. Whether those two threads are tasteful or not is another story but as far as being topical they fit perfectly fine within the definition of the forum they were posted in. This isn't to say that Bieg's thread is not topical in this forum, just that his suggestion that those two are not topical is incorrect.

I agree with Bieg about the lost in value of a car when modifying. But, I know that I would also be able to put my car relatively back to stock, if I chose to. I have no problems with him stirring the pot and bringing up what I feel is a valid point that some people just don't consider. Especially the younger folks who are all shocked that they can't get over book value just because they added rims, exhaust, and an intake. I often find it funny when people modify their cars thinking that it raises the value when they sell with all the parts. You are selling to a limited audience in that instance. Everyone has free will to choose what they want to do, but modifying limits your ability to sell in the end. I could be wrong but that is the way I have always interpretted his posts on this particular subject, it has always just been a warning to people. For me modifying my car is a hobby, lets me turn the wrench every now and then and forget about all the stupid things that go on during the work week. In the end it really doesn't matter who says what because it's my car.
