Buying Used and Out of State
Hello All,
I'm new to this forum and am about 3 weeks away from buying a used S2000. I'm thinking to spend about 27K. However, living in Los Angeles, the prices here are ridiculously high. As a result, I was thinking about buying out of state, maybe through Ebay. Have any of you done this previously? Any advice? Are there a list of things I should watch out for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My biggest piece of advice for you is this, do your homework!!! If at all possible make sure your deposit is refunable it you arent satisfied with the car. Document all emails and phone calls. Run a Carfax on the car and have a good mechanic go with you when you go to pick it up. There is no doubt you can save some good money going through Ebay but make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.....by the way, you might want to check the marketplace to see if there is anything on there you might be interested in

PM Mingster and see if his car is still available. While he has used his vehicle at shows (read; parked) to show off aftermarket parts, he is one of th emost mellow drivers I've seen and has never taken his car to the track.
Buying out of state isnt too bad, but you wont save any on taxs and reg, as they will get you when you bring it back in to CA to register. But if the price is enough of a difference... your call.
good luck!

Best thing I can think to do is get a pre-purchase inspection done. While it will cost you $150 or so it may save you big bucks. Arrange for the seller to take it to a dealer or mecahnic of your choosing and pay for the PPI so you can find out what you are getting.
