Omaha only gets about 28 inches of snow per year. That is nothing. Just get a winter beater.

NJ gets almost as cold and just as if not more snowy than Omaha (there is a chance I may be moving out there next year, so i've been doing research and talking to buddies who have been stationed there)... and my S2k, lowered on coilovers with the all-season tires i used 2 winters ago (before moving to Pcola) did just fine. Getting going from a stop was a little tricky at times, and you had to take it easy, but honestly, once i was moving, the car wasn't any worse than any other car (unless i did something stupid like try to give it a bunch of gas) With snow tires, it would have been a breeze. The only time you will have real issues is immediately after a large snow storm, before they plow. but in my experience even a wrx doesn't have the ground clearance for that.

from a guy who went from two STI's (04 and an 08) to an S2000, do NOT sell the s2000. If you must have an AWD car for the snow, buy a base impreza or WRX so you can afford to keep both. Although i must say, the STI with performance snow tires is pretty much invincible.. or at it least feels that way!

I wish I could have kept both but my garage is too small and I needed something the wife could drive (automatic transmission).

I would invest in hardtop and winter tires and call it a day.

but other awd cars to consider are a4/s4/rs4 and Evo

I was going to get an STi and keep my S2k. I test drove an EVO X, and decided that it was a much better so I got that instead and drive the S when it's nice.

About five years ago I DD'd a 01 AP1 with Blizaks in COLORADO! Much worse winters than Nebraska. It sucked a few timers when the roads were not cleared, but most of the time it was no big deal.

So i found out that i am moving to Omaha, Nebraska in decemeber. unfortunately it looks like my s2k will not be able to join me in this trip. i am planning on selling it and getting a 2011 STI. i went there for winter 2 years ago and holy crap!! there was mountains of snow with blocks of ice on the side. there is no way my s2k would be able to do that for months even with snow tires since it is too low. i mean its already low here in texas so id be worse over there. but anyways yea im still debating if i should keep it and get another DD.

To survive snow u would have to lift it up and put some snow chains for cars, I kno how much that sucks when snow traps u anywhere... If u dont wanna worry about driving on snow and traction get a 4x4/AWD vehicle eather to replace the S or something cheap just to use it in winter... I had to get a Navigator cuz the freaking snow...
Chains, really? I dont think so. Get some blizzaks and call it a day. You only need chains up in the mountains where they just let snowpack form on the roads instead of plowing. Omaha will be plowed roads, and the only time that snow will be bad is before they plow the roads.

If you are slammed, yes you will have to raise the car up to stock height and you'll be fine. If you are super concerned with traction and really think snow tires wont cut it, get a big bag of kitty litter and put it in the trunk. Gives you more weight over the rear wheels plus if you really do get stuck, you can use the kitty litter for traction.

I love how retarded people come in here commenting about how much they know and trying to prove wrong to someoone else... Look Mr. I know everything, theres something called "cable chains" that u can drive up to 35 mph, is for small cars like the S but u need to check with the state to c if is legal to use them on the city, and its just perfect to drive in snow in our cars. Obviously u never drove ur car in snow before like my self and the person who started the post, since we know for fact how bad it is to live in a place that snows all the time and know how our vehicles handle in as small as 2" of snow, please quit trying to be super smart about this cars, if that was the case u werent be here...

The f@#k? Are you serious dude? Did you not read my previous post where I said I DD'd my S2k through the winter in St. Louis? St. Louis gets slightly less snow, but a lot more ice than Omaha. We also had several snow storms with more than 4" of snow/ice mix, and I drove through that just fine. You don't need chains or cable chains for an S2k in the winter time, unless you are driving in the mountains.

Talking about 'know it all'.
